25 anniversary (II): 25 myths

On 24 August, Ukraine celebrated its 25th Independence Day. Just before this anniversary, the Kyiv Post highlighted 25 myths about Ukraine and Ukrainians.

We found some of the most notorious pro-Kremlin messages, like “Patriotic Ukrainians are extreme nationalists”, “Crimea is a Russian land”, “Ukraine isn’t a country”, Ukraine is “deeply divided along ethnic and linguistic lines” or the reference to a “neo-Nazi coup” in Kyiv.

On independence day, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, explained to Life.ru that Ukraine is actually dependent on the USA.

She quotes as evidence for this that the US had conditions for their financial support to Ukraine, for instance the release of the Prosecutor General. Russian attempts to influence the politics in Ukraine are not mentioned.
