The US presidential elections won’t have a big transcendence for the “dominated peoples”. Whether Joe Biden wins or Donald Trump is reelected, the result won’t have a significant impact on US foreign policy, where no substantial changes can be expected. The real ruler of the US is the Deep State, this is, the higher economic, media and transnational interests, the lobbies that dominate the country.
There are big differences between Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s campaign proposals in foreign policy, especially in issues such as sanctions on Iran and Cuba, climate change, multilateralism and transatlantic alliances, the Israel-Palestine conflict and US relations with democracies and autocracies. The disingenuous claim that there won’t be any change in US foreign policy whoever wins the election matches a well-established pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about global elites secretly ruling the world, and specifically a so-called ‘Deep State’ in the United States. This narrative aims to question the legitimacy of democracy and Western institutions, in this case the US elections of November 3, 2020. See other examples of these disinformation narratives in our database, such as claims that the Deep State is using Navalny to force Merkel to scrap the Nord Stream 2 project, promoting the ‘Russiagate’ conspiracy theory, or pushing US president towards war with Iran; that the Assange case represents Donald Trump’s capitulation to it; or than any US president will be assassinated if he confronts this structure.
