DISINFO: Armenia is an instrument in the Western plan to oust Russia from the Caucasus

SUMMARY

Western countries, especially the UK, are taking active measures against the backdrop of the Russian Federation's passivity in the region.

The expulsion of Russia from the region is part of a larger plan by Western countries, and Armenia is assigned the role of an instrument for its implementation.

According to British perception, Armenia should be a quasi-state entity without Nagorno-Karabakh and Syunik, under the patronage of Turkey.

Furthermore, it should primarily serve as an anti-Russian springboard - nothing more. In this situation, whilst discussing security problems and uttering beautiful words about strategic dialogue, the true goal of cooperation with Great Britain is to oust Russia from the region.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative depicting Western countries as trying to encircle Russia, pursuing deliberate anti-Russian policies, fostering aggressive Russophobia, and characterising Armenia as a puppet state of the West.

The claim was made in the context of the start of the high-level political dialogue between the Republic of Armenia and the UK.

Several other events, like the ratification of the Rome statute by Armenia, joint US-Armenia military exercises, the deployment of the EU mission in Armenia, information about the Western military deliveries to Armenia, PM Nikol Pashinian's refusal to participate in a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) provoked a huge anti-Armenian campaign in pro-Kremlin media, accusing Armenia of unfriendly moves, flirting with Western countries and changing its geopolitical orientation.

Armenia has been a sovereign and independent state since 1991 when it proclaimed its independence from the former USSR. As a sovereign state, Armenia is free to decide its own foreign policy and alliances.
