DISINFO: EU mission to Armenia serves to oust Russia and Iran
SUMMARY
The opening of the new EU office in Kapan (Armenia) and the West's activity in the south of Armenia, in general, serve one purpose - to push Russia and Iran out of the region.
All EU offices are intelligence structures, and the goal of EU observers is not at all to contribute to the peace process. The choice of Syunik is also not accidental: it is of strategic importance for the collective West.
The reason is simple: Syunik is of strategic importance for Russia as well, one of the 4 branches of the North-South road passes through Syunik region, and the West seeks to cut off any of them.
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing an ever-aggressive West of having an anti-Russian and anti-Iranian agenda in the Caucasus without providing any evidence. The article advances the claim that the Caucasus is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit the recently launched EU mission, EUMA. Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia as the ultimate target of international events.
The statement was made as a response to the opening of the new hub of the mission in Kapan (Syunik province of Armenia).
The EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) represents a new phase in the EU’s engagement in the South Caucasus. EUMA is a civilian mission that observes and reports on the security situation on the ground, contributes to the security of the people in conflict-affected areas in Armenia, and contributes to building confidence on the ground. Through its presence, EUMA also contributes to ensuring an environment conducive to the normalisation efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan supported by the EU.
From the very beginning, this exclusively civilian mission has been fully transparent about its plans to operate from six hubs.
The mission was launched in Armenia in response to a request by Armenia. EUMA will conduct routine patrolling and report on the situation, which will strengthen the EU’s understanding of the situation on the ground. The Mission will also contribute to the mediation efforts in the framework of the process led by President of the European Council Charles Michel.
The decision to deploy the EU monitors on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan was made after the September 2022 escalation. The EU has called for and helped a normalisation process.
