Disinfo: According to a US plan, Ukraine must become an agrarian state with widespread poverty

Summary

The Western countries did not abandon the colonisation policy, only the technologies for seizing new territories changed over time. Ukraine has become just one of those countries in which the United States is testing new techniques. […] according to the US plan, Ukraine should develop along the lines of Latin American, agrarian economies with poor education and widespread poverty.

Disproof

Conspiracy with no evidence given. Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine, which is often claimed to be under external control from the US, NATO, the EU, or IMF.

Ukraine is a sovereign state. The US does not control Ukraine and does not plan to turn Ukraine into a vassal state. Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by most of the free world, confirmed by the resolutions of the United Nations, but violated by Russia.

The relations between the US and Ukraine are bilateral relations between two independent countries. The US recognised Ukraine as an independent state on 25 December 1991. Since then, Washington has been working closely with Ukraine, directing its assistance to support the democratic development of the country and helping Ukraine to withstand Russian aggression. U.S. policy has since been centred on realising and strengthening a stable, democratic, prosperous, and free Ukraine more closely integrated into Europe and Euro-Atlantic structures.

See similar disinformation cases alleging that IMF destroys Ukrainian economy and brings Ukraine under external control, that the Lublin Triangle is a pro-American project, aiming to insert a wedge between Russia and Europe, and that Washington uses the topic of fighting corruption as an instrument to control Ukraine.

Protests in Belarus would not have happened without external pressure and influence

The reason for the current internal political events in the country is outside influence. The situation in Belarus is not without challenges, but the main reason for the situation is external. Had there been no external pressure and influence, it would never have happened in Belarus. The western partners of Belarus “have become too active, have gone too far” in relation to the country.

Disproof

This is part of an ongoing Russian disinformation campaign on Belarus based on recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives, such as accusing other countries of interference and portraying popular protests against electoral fraud in the country as a Western-led colour revolution.

There is no evidence that the protests in Belarus are funded and organised externally and that any Western country was trying to destabilise the situation or create a coup in Belarus.

The West deprived Ukraine and Baltic states of their sovereignty

The West uses the topic of sovereignty precisely in order to deprive others of it, just as this happened with the Baltic states, or Ukraine: once out of the USSR, they surrendered their sovereigntyThe plan has never been to give them sovereignty but to use them as an anti-Russian tool for the destruction of Russia.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory with no evidence given. This disinformation message advances pro-Kremlin narratives undermining the statehood of Ukraine and sovereignty of the Baltic states casting them as abandoned by their Western partners.

Sovereignty and respect for other countries' independent rights are at the core of Western liberal democracy.

Donbas is Russia and it must return to its natural border

Centripetal processes that are bound to come and are inevitable should involve Donbas first. We can see on the map where Donbas is located, how close to Russia. Donbas is not even a zone of Russia’s geopolitical influence, Donbas is Russia itself and it must return to its natural border.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narratives about Donbas, war in Ukraine, and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Donbas is historically a Ukrainian region. "Until the 15th century, it was a  referred to as the"wild field", where all who visited the south of Ukraine walked and lived. The 15th-18th centuries were a period of Cossack colonisation, to which government imperial colonisation and the unauthorised settlement of runaway peasants seeking free living space were later added. This continued until the early 19th century," said ethnologist Lesya Gasydgak. In 19th century Donbas began to be inhabited by workers from the Russian provinces. The historian of Donetsk Law University Dmitry Titarenko says that both in that period and in the twentieth century, up to the postwar period, Russian colonisation was a sign of the formation of Donbas.
