Disinfo: According to Germany, NATO is not needed anymore

Germany declared it would continue to endorse NATO’s open-door policy towards Georgia (after a meeting between German and Georgian defence ministers) – but at the same time, it said that NATO was not needed any more and that the European countries must take care of creating the European army. President of France Emmanuel Macron is of the same opinion.

No proof or evidence was given for these supposed French or German leaders' statements about NATO being obsolete.

In her speech at the Munich Security Conference, as well as in other  public statements, the German Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen underlined that there is no competition between NATO and strengthening of the EU defence capabilities.

By terminating the Friendship Treaty with Russia, Ukraine lost its rights of passage through Kerch Strait

Ukraine’s decision to terminate the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation results in the fact that the legal basis for the Treaty of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait is no longer valid. Therefore, Kiev deprives itself of the right of free navigation in the Azov-Kerch region.

According to the  UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), all ships, including foreign warships, enjoy the right of "innocent passage" within another state's territorial sea under international law. The Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch (2003) simply refers to the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. All possible requirements for termination of a treaty are listed in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. These requirements have not been fulfilled, so the treaty regulating the passage through Kerch Strait should still be in force.

“Cold rooms” in the Lugar laboratory

There are “Cold rooms” in the Lugar laboratory, which are not used in any other civilian laboratory. Dangerous materials are being tested in these rooms.

Long-lasting distorted reporting about the Lugar Laboratory. Pro-Kremlin disinformation has been disseminating conspiracy theories about the work of the Lugar Laboratory for years, claiming that the laboratory aims to spread dangerous viruses and exporting them to Russia. As for the so called "Cold rooms", they are not unique to Lugar Laboratory and are used in almost all labs, including in Russia, to store material.
