Disinfo: Americans rewrite and forget their history because of protests against racism

Summary

In the United States, there is now a trend to reevaluate historical heritage in the face of increased fragmentation of American society due to protests against racism. Now the Americans have decided to forget their history. They consider it so shameful that they just want to erase it without understanding who is good and who is bad. And ignorance is becoming a key driver of this process in the United States. If this continues to happen, we will once again witness how Americans rewrite their history with their own hands. And the chapters of textbooks that speak about the Confederates will simply be removed.

Disproof

A pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the racial justice protests in the US.

There's no evidence that the US will rewrite its history, but there are public discussions about what is the right course of action regarding monuments dedicated to figures related to slavery, or usage of the Confederate flag.

There is also no evidence of the US forgetting some episodes of its history. On the contrary, educators are discussing the possibility to expand the educational process to include anti-racism education and inclusive curricula.

Ukraine is Britain’s foothold for aggression against Russia

Great Britain became “closely engaged” in Ukraine after the Maidan, since it considers it as a foothold for aggression against Russia.

Disproof

No evidence is provided. This narrative is consistent with common pro-Kremlin narratives about the aggressive West and Ukraine as a non-sovereign country.

Ukraine is recognised by international law as a sovereign nation-state, with its own flag, nationality, language and with a democratically-elected president and parliament. The EU, the US, and other Western partners support the democratic development of Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter’s principles of non-interference into internal affairs and respect towards territorial integrity and political independence.

Crimea reunited with Russia after a referendum on the peninsula

Relations between the Russian Federation and Western countries have worsened due to the situation in Ukraine and around Crimea. Crimea reunited with Russia after a referendum on the peninsula. The West, having accused the Russian Federation of interference, imposed sanctions against Russia. Moscow took retaliatory measures, headed for import substitution and more than once stated that it is counterproductive talking with Russia in sanction-language. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and the subject of Minsk settlement agreements.

Disproof

This is a mix of several recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about illegal annexation of Crimea, war in Ukraine and Minsk Agreements.

The so-called referendum was organised under Russian illegal occupation without complying with neither the Ukrainian electoral code nor the Russia electoral code. The annexation has been condemned by the UN GA (see the resolution A/RES/68/262 on the territorial integrity of Ukraine). No international body recognises the so-called referendum, announced on 27 February 2014 and held on 16 March 2014. A year after the illegal annexation, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the plan to annex Crimea was ordered weeks before the so-called referendum. The European Union does not recognise Crimea's annexation and continues to condemn it as a violation of international law. EU sanctions continue to be in place against Russia as a consequence of the annexation. For the EU's statement on the sixth anniversary of Crimea annexation see here.

George Soros finances the racial justice protests in the US with money won in Ukraine

The Democratic Party, Joe Biden, George Soros are spending money to support the demonstrations in the United States, which they won in a dirty way, among others, in Ukraine. They also finance “pogroms”, that is to say, the violent riots.

Disproof

Recurring narrative on the US protests being organised by George Soros and the Democrat party to take power away from Donald Trump illegally.

There is no evidence to suggest that the protests in the US broke out through “top-down mobilisation,” or that someone is financing them. More globally, this narrative portrays any spontaneous disorders and civil uprisings in other states, very often the former Soviet republics, as Western-funded "colour revolutions".
