Disinfo: Americans want Ukraine to grow GMO products

Summary

The US wants Ukraine to grow GMO products, and they will help. The US does not give a task – grow whatever you want. Instead, they want Ukraine to grow GMO products, the Americans will help with this. Sell the land, become farm labourers. Ukrainians will grow the products that they need and not the ones that are profitable and traditionally produced by Ukraine.

Disproof

No evidence given. Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative alleging that Ukraine is controlled by the US. Ukraine is a sovereign state, not controlled by any foreign government. The new law on the land market states that only Ukrainian citizens and companies registered in Ukraine and under Ukrainian law will be eligible to buy agricultural land in Ukraine. Other restrictions are prescribed by the law. A recently established working group at the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine will deal with the regulation of genetically modified organisms. The group included experts from the Ministry, as well as representatives of leading industry organisations and associations, including the Seed Association of Ukraine.

In Ukraine, supporters of Poroshenko rallied against the Donbas ceasefire

In Kyiv, supporters of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko rallied against the ceasefire in Donbas, which was announced on 27 July.

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative that Ukraine is sabotaging peace in Donbas. Hundreds of people came to the Office of the President of Ukraine against the new conditions of the new ceasefire deal in the Donbas, not against the ceasefire itself. The organiser of the protest - the Resistance Movement of Capitulation, is a non-partisan association of public organisations, activists, scientists who oppose Russian aggression. Protesters claimed that with a new ceasefire deal the Ukrainian authorities disarmed Ukrainian army. The new ceasefire deal was agreed on 22 of July by members of the Tripartite Contact Group that includes representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and was welcomed by EU officials. The latest ceasefire declaration proved controversial in Ukraine due to restrictions on soldiers returning fire. Critics accusing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of advocating for a humiliating ceasefire that put Ukraine at a disadvantage and appeased the Kremlin. Meanwhile, the ceasefire on Donbas that was about to begin from 27 of July, failed. According to a communique by Ukraine’s military-police contingent in Donbas, at least two armed attacks against Ukrainian troops occurred in the early morning hours.

NATO troops entered Donbas

Finally, NATO troops entered the territory of Ukraine [Donbas]. It is exactly what they have been dreaming of for a long time, and now they have got this. I think that they will try to gain a foothold here, and then to control the Ukrainian government in order to buy land, ports, factories, nuclear energy – all that hasn’t been already sold in Ukraine. And the guarantor will be foreign troops.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine and NATO. NATO troops did not enter the territory of Donbas. According to the press service of the "Joint Forces Operation", Ukrainian soldiers with experience of service in the UN peacekeeping missions were sent to eastern Ukraine. "Specially deployed Ukrainian servicemen are arriving on the front line of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Most of them have extensive combat experience and were directly engaged in relevant issues during participation within the UN-sponsored peacekeeping missions."

It's DPR, LPR and Russia who are interested in a ceasefire on Donbas, not Ukraine

Who proposed these measures introduced at midnight today? In the spring, within the framework of the Minsk Agreement. DPR, LPR and Russia offered Ukraine to fix everything that came into force today. And who refused? Who is conducting sabotage actions, using military drones and so on. Who refused? It’s Ukraine. So who is to blame for the fact that people have died so far on Donbas?

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine, claiming that Ukraine refuses to implement the Minsk agreements. The claims are being made in the context of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia/so called LNR and DPR which came into force on Monday 27 July 2020. The agreement was "the result of the effective work of the Ukrainian delegation with the support of our international partners in Berlin and Paris," the office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement. Reaching a ceasefire deal was a precondition for a new Ukrainian crisis summit. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron have spoken of reuniting Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Still, the implementation of the agreements remains one of the key priorities of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Over the last 12 months, Ukraine has made serious steps to resolve the conflict in Donbas peacefully. Ukraine initiated a 'Normandy Four' meeting that was held on 9 December 2019. Ukraine agreed that a full and comprehensive ceasefire is necessary. The parties of the Normandy Summit also agreed to release captives on the principle "all for all" by December 2019. Three prisoner exchanges have been conducted, with the last one taking place during the COVID-19 lockdown. The law on special order of local self-government in certain areas of Donbas was extended for another year. A disengagement of troops was achieved in Zolote, Petrivske, and Stanytsia Luhanska. Ukraine also rebuilt a bridge in Stanytsia Luhanska that was destroyed by the pro-Russian militants in March 2015.
