Summary

Disinfo: US protégés in Ukraine will have to flee like Ashraf Ghani

US protégés in Ukraine will have to flee like Ashraf Ghani. It is unclear if it is Zelenskyy or if he is toppled before that, but they will have to flee in the same manner.

Disproof

Pro-Kremlin disinformation message aimed at undermining Ukrainian statehood and portraying it as a puppet-state of the US. The message appeared in the context of the fall of Kabul and Afghanistan to the Taliban.

There is no basis for any of these claims or attempts to compare the situation in Afghanistan to that of Ukraine. The pro-Kremlin media use the events in Afghanistan to predict the end of the so-called 'US hegemony.'

Disinfo: The coup in Ukraine in 2014 was a Western project

The coup in Ukraine in 2014 was a Western project.

The coup d'etat in Ukraine in 2014 was not the result of the softness of the authorities, it was predetermined by the implementation of the project "Ukraine as Anti-Russia".

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative trying to undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine, while painting the 2013-14 protests in Kyiv as a coup d'état.

There was no coup, nor a western orchestrated protest in Ukraine in 2014. Pro-Kremlin media falsely portray the Euromaidan revolution as a coup d’état. In fact, the popular demonstrations that began in Kyiv in November of 2013 and brought hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians to the streets were protesting against a political decision of Viktor Yanukovych’s government, which at the last minute withdrew from a long-negotiated political association and free trade pact with the EU, choosing instead to accept a $15 billion economic bailout to Russia.

Disinfo: Crimea voted for reunification with Russia in full compliance with international law

Relations between Russia and Western countries deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine and around Crimea, which was reunited with Russia following a referendum. The West, accusing Russia of interfering, imposed sanctions against it, Moscow retaliated. Ukraine still considers Crimea to be Ukrainian but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter, voted for reunification with Russia.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014.

No international body recognises the so-called referendum in Crimea. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. On 17 December 2018, the UN General Assembly confirmed its non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.
