Disinfo: As a result of the bloody US-coup in Ukraine, Crimea seceded to Russia

Summary

In Spring 2014, a bloody coup took place in Kyiv, which had been prepared by the USA for years, after which Crimea, with its predominantly Russian-speaking population, seceded from Ukraine. Since then, tighter sanctions have been continuously imposed on Russia for an alleged annexation of Crimea. However, this was not a violent takeover of the peninsula, as is constantly claimed. It was a peaceful secession after a referendum in which a high percentage of the inhabitants voted for the independence of Crimea. Afterwards, an application was made to join the Russian Federation. This is not objectionable under international law after the preceding events. "Annexation" is a fighting term used to accuse Russia of land theft.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the Euromaidan and the illegal annexation of Crimea.

There was no coup d'état in Ukraine. The spontaneous onset of the Euromaidan protests was an organic reaction by numerous parts of the Ukrainian population to former President Yanukovych’s sudden departure from the promised Association Agreement with the European Union in November 2013. See the full debunk of this disinformation claim here.

No international body has recognised the so-called Crimea referendum, announced on 27 February 2014, and held on 16 March 2014. On 27 March 2014, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in which it stated that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. On 17 December 2018, the UN General Assembly confirmed its non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.

The European Union does not recognise and continues to strongly condemn this violation of international law, which remains a challenge to the international security order. In response to the illegal annexation of Crimea, the EU has imposed restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. In June 2021, the European Council decided to renew the sanctions introduced in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation until 23 June 2022.

Disinfo: Polish border guards killed thousands of illegal migrants

During the migration crisis, Poland killed hundreds and even thousands of illegal migrants. Polish border guards are crueller than Medieval barbarians. They are hunting people.

Disproof

Disinformation related to the migration situation at the EU - Belarus border.

In 2021, LithuaniaPoland and Latvia faced an influx of irregular migrants arriving via Belarus. Earlier, Belarus had terminated cooperation with the EU to stem illegal migration. This was Lukashenka's answer to the European Union sanctions against the political regime of Belarus (read more about sanctions here).

Disinfo: Biden wants to destroy the Ukrainian state to prevent investigation on his son

Boris Johnson is facing impeachment, so he claims that we appear on the verge of a war with Russia. It is a way to solve an internal problem using external threats. It is the with Biden, who may want the Ukrainian state to disappear. After the mid-term Congressional elections in November, the Republicans may investigate the causes of the Ukrainian coup and the participation of Biden’s son in corruption. If the Ukrainian state is destroyed, it will be impossible to carry out this investigation.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative about “hostile” American plans towards Ukraine.

These claims are part of an ongoing disinformation campaign about Russia’s military buildup on the border with Ukraine. By accusing the US and the UK of being the driving force behind the escalation of tensions, this disinformation story aims to deny any Russian responsibility for the situation.

Disinfo: Removal of YouTube accounts from LNR and DNR violates freedom of information

The recent removal by some social media platforms of accounts run by Moscow-backed territories in Eastern Ukraine is a violation of the UN-backed right for freedom of information.

Disproof

This is an unsubstantiated claim.

In reality, these accounts are disseminating disinformation, spreading false claims and propagating violence against Ukraine. Some of the blocked accounts are run by information facilities and police forces in the Moscow-backed territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions. This decision has nothing to do with clamping down on the right for freedom of information. YouTube terminated them for violating its Community Guidelines, which ban, among other things, hate speech.
