Disinfo: At least 20 Western countries have dealt with Novichok

As for the deadly toxic substance, which is called Novichok in the West, its composition, structure, and mass spectrometry were first shown in 1998 within the Spectral Database of the US National Bureau of Standards.

Novichok is a purely western brand, and it is manufactured and is available in (no less than 20 western countries), Russia does not own it.

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on Novichok and Navalny's poisoning. Also, a good example of whataboutism. No proof is given on Novichok being produced in “The West”.

Back in 1992, the newspaper Moskovskie Novosti published an article by two Russian scientists about a powerful fourth-generation chemical weapon developed in Soviet Russia in the period of 1970-1990s under a Soviet programme codenamed Foliant.

Later, on the basis of the same article, Vil Mirzayanov, one of the authors was arrested with the accusation of revealing a state secret. In 1994, the Moscow Municipal Court tried to hold a closed hearing in the case, after which the case was returned to the prosecutor's office due to insufficient grounds for confirmation of the charges. Already living in the United States, Mirzayanov published a book in 2008 entitled State Secrets: An Insider's Chronicle of the Russian Chemical Weapons Program, in which he discussed Novichok's formula, which means “Newcomer” in Russian.

After the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal with Novichok in Salisbury in 2018, Dr. Vil  Mirzayanov said that “many countries could have had test samples, but production was only refined in the U.S.S.R. and Russia” because it “is the country that invented it, has the experience, turned it into a weapon... has fully mastered the cycle”.

See similar cases claiming that Russia doesn’t have Novichok anymore, that Poisoning of Navalny is a provocation to stop the construction of Nord Stream 2, that Navalny case is a special operation used to put pressure on Putin and just a pretext for the West to enforce Russophobia, and that the Novichok group doest not exist.

Cases in the EUvsDisinfo database focus on messages in the international information space that are identified as providing a partial, distorted, or false depiction of reality and spread key pro-Kremlin messages. This does not necessarily imply, however, that a given outlet is linked to the Kremlin or editorially pro-Kremlin, or that it has intentionally sought to disinform. EUvsDisinfo publications do not represent an official EU position, as the information and opinions expressed are based on media reporting and analysis of the East Stratcom Task Force.

Ukraine violates the Ottawa Convention

The 36th brigade of the Ukrainian marines violates the Ottawa Convention. Fresh photographs on the internet from the mine-explosive charges held by the 36th brigade, completely refute denials of the non-use of antipersonnel mines. In these photographs, we can perfectly distinguish the land mines. These mines explode not only at the training ground of the 36th brigade but also cause tragedies among civilians in Donbas.

A recurring narrative about the war in Ukraine.

Similar publications appeared in Russian media after Ukrainian marines took part in a routine mine safety exercise for young commanders. During the training, the officers were reminded of the basic rules for handling explosive objects, and they conducted practical exercises with examples of the performance of combat missions by a demining group. There was no "mining with anti-personnel mines" of the territories of Donbas during the classes - these were military exercises for young officers.

The US gave 20 million USD to organise the riots in Belarus

The US have invested 20 million USD in the anti-government protests in Belarus. [The sum] was invested in Belarus as early as 2019 to prepare the protests before the elections in 2020.

This is part of an ongoing Russian disinformation campaign on Belarus based on recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives, such as accusing other countries of interference and portraying popular protests against electoral frau in the country as a Western-led colour revolution, in this case bank-rolled directly by the US.

There is no evidence that the protests in Belarus are funded and organised by the US or that any Western country was trying to destabilise the situation or create a coup in Belarus.

Kyiv to transport weapons to Azerbaijan

Kyiv continues to interfere in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The reason for this is that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence believes that such sort of aid (weapon transports) are helping Kyiv in its conflict with Russia. In past days, Kyiv sent military cargo worth USD 780,000 to Turkish ports. Moreover, 58 Ukrainian nationalists from the “Right Sector” and the “National Corps” have so far agreed to be transferred to Azerbaijan.

This is a pro-Kremlin narrative about Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has denied all similar statements that Ukraine is allegedly ready to get involved in the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stressed that the decision to provide assistance to another state is made by the president and the government. However, the Foreign Ministry stressed that Ukraine remains committed to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
