Disinfo: Belarus and the Russian Federation are parts of Russia. Sooner or later, our country will be united.

Summary

There are chances for closer integration of two parts of Russia: Belarus and the Russian Federation. Both are parts of Russia. Sooner or later, our country will be united.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin propaganda narratives denying Belarusian statehood, considering Belarus as an integral part of the Russian world.

This is an imperial Russian and Russian irredentist ideology which is aimed at weakening the national identity of Belarus. Although Belarusian and Russian people share parts of their history, Belarus is an independent nation-state with a long history. Belarus preserved a different language, literature and identity, despite foreign rule for a long period on its territory.

The Treaty on the Creation of a Union State of Russia and Belarus was signed on 8 December 1999. Its intention was to achieve a supranational confederation between the two states. However, thus far, the countries have failed to institute common symbols or a Constitutional act of the Union State, hence Union State common bodies mostly remain on paper. Since 2018, Russia began putting more pressure on Belarus to proceed with a deeper integration within the 1999 Treaty.

See an earlier case claiming that the Belarusian-Russian Union would prevent Belarus and Russia from becoming a humiliated colony of the US or EU. Other examples of pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets' attempts to question the legitimacy of the Belarusian nation can be found here and here.

The EU is an occupational government on behalf of the US in Europe

The EU would be interested in implementing the nuclear agreement with Iran for its own economic interests, but that would mean confronting the US. So the EU is going to do what Washington says because it is an occupational government in Europe on behalf of the US.

Disproof

This is part of a recurrent Russian narrative to portray the European Union as a vassal of the US. The European Union is a sovereign entity, created by the voluntary initiative of European nations, and it has its own, independent foreign policy. Its citizens are directly represented in the European Parliament and Member States are represented in the European Council and the Council of the EU. The United States of America is not part of these institutions. The US had no role in the creation of the EU and has no say in its decisions.

You can see other examples of disinformation on this topic, such as allegations that the EU is dependent on US foreign policy and it is imposing sanctions on Russia only due to Washington’s pressure, that the US considers the EU a kind of protectorate and US troops in Europe are an occupying army which needs NATO to keep the Europeans under control, that the EU is trying to escape from US control and occupation, and that this is the reason why it needs its own army.

EU accepts a Kyiv government, filled to the brim with Nazis

The European countries are aware of the facts that the new Kiev government is filled to the brim with various radical and Nazi elements, it furthermore funds Nazis, as it even introduced a pension reform for veterans from the Nazi-infested elements. Furthermore, it supports radical and Nazi-like ideologies, such as the Ukrainian hero Stepan Bandera and his ideology, various Nazi elements soldiers’ uniforms and so forth. This, in turn, means that more than likely Europe understands that the Kiev government employs various methods of oppression, such as illegal detachments, censorship, political “witch hunts” and more, simply to remain in power.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative painting the Ukrainian politics dominated by fascist/Nazi groups and ideology.

The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine has been the cornerstone of Russian disinformation about the country since the beginning of the 2013-14 Euromaidan protests, when it was used to discredit the pro-European popular uprising in Kyiv and, subsequently, the broader pro-Western shift in Ukraine's foreign policy. The accusation of Nazism is one of the favourite techniques of pro-Kremlin outlets, read our past analysis Nazi east, Nazi west, Nazi over the cuckoo's nest.

Unirea political block will transform the Moldovan society into a fascist one

The declared course of Unirea political block is equal to the transformation of the Moldovan society into a fascist one, in its Romanian variation.

Disproof

Recurring the narrative that all national parties campaigning for EU and NATO membership are fascists.

The ”Unirea” electoral bloc was announced publicly on January 15, 2020. It is created by 5 political groups that advocate for the union of the Republic of Moldova with Romania and, implicitly, for the accession to the EU and NATO. There is no mention, in public speeches at the event, about sympathies for fascism.
