Disinfo: Biden’s talk about Navalny is arrogant as the USA unlawfully imprisons people at Guantanamo

Summary

The Polish media complain about the refusal of the Russian President to call Navalny by his surname [during his meeting with Biden]. In this situation, it is necessary to ask if any of the US Presidents have ever mentioned the names of Uthman Abdul al-Rahim Muhammed Uthman, Muieen A Deen Jamal-A Deen Abd al-Fusal Abd al-Sattar or Zuhail Abdo Anam Said al-Sharabi.

These three men were unlawfully imprisoned by the USA for 19 years in the illegal concentration camp situated in the illegally occupied part of Cuba known as Guantanamo. The current number of persons kidnapped by the American forces and kept at Guantanamo is 40 – before, there were 780 persons imprisoned there.

Thus, the situation when the American President lectures other leaders about the people wrongly held in prison is arrogant.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the intense violation of Human Rights in the West – it promotes the idea that Western countries do not have any position or moral right to criticise Russia, China and other states for the situation with Human Rights.

The comparison of the unlawful imprisonment of Alexey Navalny to the imprisonment of persons suspected of terrorism at the Guantanamo detention camp is fallacious.

Guantanamo camp is not situated on the “illegally occupied part” of Cuba – this territory was leased to the USA by the Cuban authorities in 1903 and 1934 (the lease agreement has no expiration date).

There have been repeated concerns about the Human Rights situation at Guantanamo – in this situation, the US authorities reduced the number of prisoners kept at this facility from 780 (2002) to 41 (2021). In February 2021, President Biden launched the review of this prison, preparing the closing of this facility.

The situation with Human Rights in the EU and the USA appears to be on a fundamentally better level than in countries such as China, Russia or Belarus, which are actively criticising the West for its efforts to protect Human Rights worldwide.

It also promotes the idea that the USA and Russia will decide the “fate” of smaller countries by themselves (as it was assumed by the concept of the “Concert of Powers” in the XIX century).

For years, the Kremlin has tried to convince the USA to return to the Cold War practice of division of the regional spheres of influence (calling it a “big deal”), but this demand is rejected by the USA and EU. According to US State Secretary Blinken, the concept of having spheres of influence should have disappeared after WWII – the USA does not recognise such a concept and the Russian claims for “control” over post-Soviet countries.

It is a very sad conclusion, but Washington strongly marginalises Poland. Despite the feeling that Poland is a strategic partner for the United States, today, it is becoming a junior partner on the absolute margin of the US foreign policy.
