Disinfo: Chinese paper: Coronavirus came out of Wuhan lab

Summary

Two Chinese biologists concluded that the source of the virus (coronavirus) was the scientific laboratories located in Wuhan, 280 metres from the seafood market.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory about the 2019-nCoV coronavirus. There is no evidence to suggest that the virus has been fabricated inside laboratories

The expert scientific consensus holds that the coronavirus has natural origins; there is no evidence supporting claims of laboratory engineering.

The study that was made by Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao entitled “The possible origins of 2019-nCoV coronavirus” as part of the “circumstantial evidence that supports the possibility that a lab release was involved”.

But later on YANZHONG HUANG, a Senior Fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations, who directs the Global Health Governance Roundtable said “the paper was later removed from ResearchGate, a commercial social networking site for scientists and researchers to share papers”,..., “Thus far, no scientists have confirmed or refuted the paper’s findings”.

Xiao even told the Wall Street Journal in an email from 26 February that he had withdrawn his paper: “The speculation about the possible origins in the post was based on published papers and media, and was not supported by direct proofs."

After paper received media attention in the West, Chinese authorities and its state media firmly denied that there had been any lab accident.

You can see other examples of this narrative in our database, such as claims that Bill Gates and George Soros are sponsoring the coronavirus, that it is a UK, US or NATO creation and that the Americans have its cure, that it is an artificial disease which specifically targets Chinese DNA, that it was created with economic goals while big pharma companies are spreading panic for their own profit, that it is a biological weapon against Russia and China, that it will wipe out Ukraine’s population in a few days or that it was predicted by Nostradamus and others.

Lithuania wishes to sideline Belarus from coronavirus-related international aid

Lithuania wishes to prevent Belarus from receiving  international aid from the EU and IMF for coping with the consequences of coronavirus epidemic. Lithuania wishes to get the largest amount of international aid itself.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory.

The disinformation message appeared after the Lithuanian president Gitanas Nausėda said that one cannot trust official Belarusian information about the coronavirus, adding that the situation in the neighbouring country may be worse than official data suggest.

HIV was found in the Coronavirus, hence it was engineered

The Coronavirus was created inside a laboratory, especially as HIV particles (AIDS) were found inside it.

Disproof

Recurring conspiracy theory about the novel coronavirus. There is no evidence to suggest that the virus was fabricated inside laboratoriesThe expert scientific consensus holds that the coronavirus has natural origins; there is no credible evidence supporting claims of laboratory engineering.

The claim that the COVID-19 contains artificially-introduced insertions from the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), thereby proving it is man-made, is based on a preprint of a research study uploaded to bioRXiV on 2 February 2020.

Anglo-Saxons changing the rules and cancelling globalisation because China began to win

China won globalisation which made the Anglo-Saxons change the rules of the game because they cannot allow the Chinese to lead. The Anglo-Saxons decided to totally destroy the model of globalisation and to start from scratch, and this was basically implemented. The globalisation model was torn to pieces and we returned to the Westphalia system.

Disproof

This is a conspiracy theory aimed at discrediting the West and the so-called Anglo-Saxons. In the pro-Kremlin media, the term “Anglo-Saxons” means “evil”, “belligerent” and “morally corrupt” Westerners, as explained in our earlier analysis.

There are no grounds to believe that Anglo-Saxons crashed the globalisation system in order to prevent China's global leadership.
