DISINFO: Collective West pushing the world towards a Third World War

SUMMARY

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Ukraine should receive long-range missiles. It means that the collective West is pushing the world towards a third world war.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets claiming that Ukraine and the Western countries supporting it are not interested in peace. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The United States, the European Union and other countries are providing Ukraine with military and financial assistance as well as diplomatic support with the sole aim of helping it repel Russia's unjustified and unprovoked aggression. Since the very beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, the EU and the US have been trying to achieve a diplomatic settlement (see here and here).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace formula in January 2023. This formula, based on the principle of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, was supported by the European Union. Putin dismissed any attempts at a peaceful solution by putting forward unacceptable conditions on Ukraine such as renunciation of part of its territory. Ukraine cannot comply with these demands because its aim is to liberate all of its occupied territories.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell said he backed Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski’s statement to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles. Borrell wrote on X on 3 January 2024:

Good discussion with Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski. Weshared increasing concerns over intensified Russian air attacks against Ukraine civilian infrastructure. We agreed on the need to enhance our military support to Ukraine, including with long range and anti aircraft missiles,’ Borrell wrote on X on 3 January 2024.

The EU, the US and NATO condemns in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. NATO as an organisation is not involved in fighting in Ukraine.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that West did not want peace, it prodded Ukraine into war, that Zelenskyy and the EU want a permanent war in Ukraine, and that Zelenskyy’s peace plan is a war formula.
