Disinfo: Colour revolution methodology used in Belarus

Summary

… Observers believe that there is real evidence, [that] mechanisms and ideologies adopted during the colour revolutions in Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine, [are] lurking Belarus today.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Belarus and colour revolutions.

The protests in Belarus erupted to contest the results of the presidential election in Belarus on the 9th of August, which are considered fraudulent by a large part of Belarusian society. The European Union has also stated that the elections were neither free nor fair.

There is no evidence that the protests in Belarus are funded and organised externally.

Pro-Kremlin media frequently use disinformation narratives about popular protests around the world allegedly incited and funded by the US and other Western states, including colour revolutions in post-Soviet states.

This narrative claims that protests, disorders and civil uprisings are never manifestations of popular discontent but are “colour revolutions” directed and funded by the West.

See similar cases claiming that the protests in Belarus are a colour revolution conducted according to a Maidan scenario and that the West wants to prepare Maidan in Belarus. Several issues of the Disinformation Review has been devoted to the situation in Belarus: examples here and here.

A paid colour revolution is going on in Belarus

Once again, despite being exposed, US imperialism is trying its miserable attempts with brutal hegemony to launch its paid colour “revolutions” from the Baltic and Black Sea to the shores of the Mediterranean …! And the attention today is pointed towards all theaters of the soft war operations with the power and focus on Belarus …!

In spite of the disinformation efforts of the American-European media machine / NATO, which are trying to portray what is happening in the former Soviet Republic of Belarus as a struggle between the legitimate president Aliaksander Lukashenka and the housewife Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya, […], the aim that the United States and its European tails are trying to achieve in this country have nothing to do with democracy, nor with any other noble humanitarian goal whatsoever.

“Normandy format meeting” was cancelled due to Ukraine’s inability to keep its word

The Ukrainian authorities have suffered yet another fiasco in the game of “we are fully-fledged participants in the Normandy format.” Contrary to the statements of the country’s top officials, the “Normandy meeting” scheduled for 28 August has been cancelled. The reasons for the cancellation of the meeting are obvious: Ukraine did not fulfill its obligations to partners, which it undertook at the Paris summit in December 2019.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine, claiming that Ukraine refuses to implement the Minsk agreements.

The office of the President of Ukraine confirmed in a statement that the meeting of advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format states on 28 August will not take place:

In desperate need of a vaccine, Europe is turning to Russia

While Western pharmaceutical corporations are still working on a drug against coronavirus, the European Union does not rule out the purchase of a vaccine developed by Russian scientists “Sputnik V”. The race for the vaccine has been another failed test of Western solidarity. On both sides of the Atlantic, governments are making multimillion-dollar orders for a drug that pharmaceutical corporations have not yet created.

Opposition against Sputnik V has political roots and is grounded in the fact that West did not yet create its own vaccine.

Disproof

A new addition to the recently developed pro-Kremlin narrative about Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V.

The European Commission unveiled on Thursday 20 August they had secured 225 million doses on behalf of all EU Member States from CureVac. “The European Commission delivers on its promise to secure rapid access for Europeans and the world to a safe vaccine that protects us against the coronavirus," said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
