Russia prevents the Black Sea from turning into NATO’s zone of influence

The security guarantor of Crimea is already a nuclear power, Russia. The Crimean peninsula has turned into a solid military, naval fist. Which is also a powerful blow to NATO’s plans to turn the Black Sea into NATO’s “internal sea” or zone of influence. Crimea will never again be a part of Ukraine.

Disproof

The alleged encroachments of NATO on the Ukrainian peninsula are among the most common disinformation narratives, to justify the illegal annexation of Crimea. Russia's disinformation uses all sorts of controversial arguments: geopolitical, military, historical, to defend the Russian annexation of Crimea. There is no evidence that NATO was planning to deploy weapons system in Crimea, which was part of a sovereign Ukraine.

NATO expansion is also a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative. NATO does not "expand" in the imperialistic sense described by the Kremlin leadership and Russian state media, but instead considers the applications of candidate countries that want to join the defensive alliance based on their own national will. NATO enlargement is not directed against Russia.

The claim that NATO was planning to base ships and missiles in Crimea is fiction. The idea has never been proposed, suggested or discussed within NATO. In the Statement by the North Atlantic Council on Crimea on 18 March 2019, NATO condemned Russia's ongoing and wide-ranging military build-up in Crimea, and expressed concern by Russia's efforts and stated plans for a further military build-up in the Black Sea region.

Coronavirus COVID-19 reached NATO and disrupts its anti-Russian plans

Coronavirus COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the world. Hundreds of forums and international events are being cancelled due to the pandemic. The time has come for NATO military exercises. COVID-19 reaches NATO and disrupts its plans. The large anti-Russian exercise Cold Response is cancelled. So, it is possible that the same decision will be made for the Defender 2020.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that NATO is encircling Russia and that US-led military exercises, Cold Response and Defender-Europe 2020, are directed against Russia. Find similar cases here.

Cold Response 2020 is a Norwegian-led military exercise in northern Norway and not directed against Russia. Norway is a leading nation in NATO when it comes to cold weather operations, and has extensive experience in this field. This makes Norway a natural and experienced host for winter exercises such as Cold Response. The main aim of the exercise is to secure the Norwegian Armed Forces and allies' ability to conduct multinational joint exercises with a high-intensity combat scenario in demanding winter conditions. The exercise is now being terminated, due to the ongoing coronavirus situation in Norway.

Default awaits Ukraine due to coronavirus – the country has run out of currency

Ukraine is waiting for default due to coronavirus. The Ukrainian authorities woke up and started talking about a financial collapse because Ukraine would not be able to repay government debts. The leadership of Ukraine does not hide the panic. In Ukraine, even foreign currency has ended.

Disproof

Periodic Kremlin narrative about the collapse of the financial system of Ukraine.

The National Bank of Ukraine sees no reason for default on Ukraine's obligations. The management of the main Ukrainian bank has confirmed that it is not going to stop paying off government debt. Also, the National Bank of Ukraine said that the influence of coronavirus had a limited and neutral effect on the economy of Ukraine in February and early March.
