Disinfo: Death of White Helmets founder convenient for the sponsors: truth will not come out

Summary

The death of James Le Mesurier, founder of the controversial NGO White Helmets, didn’t benefit Russia nor Syria but was very convenient for its sponsors. The Russian and Syrian governments were very interested in him staying safe so he could reveal the truth about the work of the White Helmets, presenting indisputable evidence of their provocative actions to the international community.

Disproof

Recurrent Russian disinformation narrative against the White Helmets, attempting to portray them as a terrorist-linked group that falsified evidence of war crimes by Russian and Syrian armed forces. It is also consistent with the recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative that the chemical attacks in Syria were staged.

You can see other examples of disinformation on the White Helmets in our database, such as the group’s fabrication of chemical attacks in Douma and other places in order to justify a Western intervention, their creation was a Western intelligence operation, their disregard for civilians, their links to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups or their involvement in organ trafficking.

OPCW hid evidence proving that government in Damascus was not behind Douma incident

The Mail on Sunday newspaper revealed that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) hid evidence that conflicted with the narrative that the Syrian government was behind the alleged chemical attack in the city of Douma in April 2018.

In a report by journalist Peter Hitchens, the newspaper confirmed that it had received a copy of an original internal report prepared by the organization’s experts regarding the Douma incident.

Although the organisation’s final report insisted that the alleged attack was most likely carried out using chlorine gas, the original report indicated that chlorine was found at the accident site in small quantities, not exceeding what could be found in any home.

The original report also expresses serious doubts about the source of the two gas cylinders found at the site, acknowledging that the fact-finding mission of the organisation cannot provide any explanations regarding the disproportionality of the damage caused to these two cylinders with the damage of the roofs of the buildings in which they were found.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative seeking to absolve the Assad regime of responsibility for chemical attacks perpetrated in the course of the Syrian civil war, as well as to undermine the credibility and independence of the OPCW.

The internal OPCW e-mail message published by Wikileaks and sent on June 22, 2018, by an unidentified member of OPCW’s Fact-Finding Mission (FFM), does not accuse the OPCW management of deliberately manipulating and suppressing evidence gathered by the FFM in order to blame the Assad government for the Douma attack and to justify Western military intervention against Syria.

Ukrainian statehood was born from the Maidan and is weak

The point is not that Zelenskyy is weak, but that Ukrainian independence and statehood are weak. The current Ukrainian statehood was born from the Maidan and it will die because of the Maidan with a high degree of probability.

Disproof

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative, challenging Ukrainian statehood and Euromaidan.

Ukraine is recognised in international law as a sovereign nation-state, with its own flag, nationality, language and with a democratically-elected president and parliament. Ukraine is not controlled by any foreign government, while its sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by most of the free world but were violated by Russia in 2014. The EU works closely with Ukraine and supports the democratic development of Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter’s principles of non-interference into internal affairs and respect towards territorial integrity and political independence.

After Bolivia, Mexico is next in line in Washington’s destabilisation list

Washington’s strategists, inspired by the coup they orchestrated in Bolivia, tried several times to destabilise the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Donald Trump threatened to designate drug cartels as international terrorist organisations, trying to explore the possibility of creating a justification for military operations inside Mexico and in any Latin American country, in order to keep them as its backyard in the future.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory. No evidence is provided to support the claim. This is part of a recurrent Russian disinformation narrative about constant US plots to undermine Latin American governments. You can see many examples in our database, such as an alleged CIA-led Twitter campaign and a hybrid war in Bolivia, the engineering of blackouts all over Latin America, the promotion of secessionism in Mexico or Venezuela, the training of Venezuelan exiles in Guyana for military operations inside the country, preparations for a military intervention in that country after forcing Brazil to join NATO or the existence of an alleged 'Operation Condor for the XXIst century'.
