Disinfo: EU is suffering from the sanctions against Russia

Summary

Sanctions against Russia are speeding up the suffering of the European economy.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western sanctions on Russia claiming that they have backfired. Since March 2014, the EU has progressively imposed restrictive measures against Russia. The measures were adopted in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and the deliberate destabilisation of Ukraine.

According to research into the effect of sanctions, the cumulative export loss to Russia during 2014-2018 is estimated at EUR 30 billion (about -0.2% of EU’s GDP in 2018), incurred largely during 2014-2016, as EU exports to Russia recovered in 2017. While these sanctions do effect EU's economy, the EU-wide impacts of the export losses are estimated at less than 0.2% of total value-added and employment.

Polish Strategy of National Security was written under the dictation of the USA

It is not a secret that important Polish documents regarding national security are written under the dictation of the United States with a clear intention. The USA perceives China and Russia as its highest threats – that is why the Polish security strategy cannot be different. The main problem here is that the American strategy is the manifestation of state sovereignty, while the Polish security strategy is a part of the American strategy.

Disproof

A common pro-Kremlin narrative on “lost sovereignty” - in the case of Poland, this country is often presented as a “puppet-state” of the United States, which fully controls the domestic and foreign policy of this country.

Poland is a sovereign state, which develops its own national security strategy, which is based on the national interests of Poland.

Every US president needs an invasion, so Trump may attack Venezuela or perhaps Mexico

Trump has an imperative need for an invasion, which has been a constant for all US presidents. It may take place in northern Mexico or in the Caribbean, namely in Venezuela. This country has the biggest oil reserves in the world, which makes it a very attractive target amidst an oil price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia and the collapse of the US oil industry to the edge of bankruptcy. This especially affects Texas, which has 38 electoral votes and will be a key state in the 2020 election.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory, with no evidence provided to support it. Contrary to the claim, invasions are not a constant for all US presidents, as exemplified by the cases of Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, who ordered US forces to support the evacuation or rescue of US citizens on several occasions but no aggressive military operations against other countries.

This is part of a recurrent Russian disinformation narrative about constant US plots to undermine Latin American governments. You can see many examples in our database, such as alleged plans to designate drug cartels as terrorist organisations as a cover for military control of Mexico, the next country in Washington’s destabilisation list after Bolivia; claims of a US plot to invade Mexico; an alleged CIA-led Twitter campaign and a hybrid war in Bolivia, the engineering of blackouts all over Latin America, the promotion of secessionism in Mexico or Venezuela, the training of Venezuelan exiles in Guyana for military operations inside the country, preparations for military intervention in that country after forcing Brazil to join NATO or the existence of an alleged 'Operation Condor for the XXIst century'.

The Skripals got caught in a power-struggle among US and UK billionaires

There are splits within any political organization; and, apparently, the false-flag operation against the Skripals was done by a ring that included not only representatives of UK billionaires, but also representatives of Democratic Party U.S. billionaires who are competing for power against Republican Party U.S. billionaires. This is a power-struggle within the U.S.-UK elite. Though that entire elite want to conquer Russia, they disagree on how to do it. The Trumpians want to conquer China and Iran first, but all the others are simply obsessed against Russia. The Skripals got trapped by the Russia-obsessed billionaires.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the Skripal poisoning claiming that the United Kingdom was never able to prove a “Russian trace” and did not provide detailed evidence of Russia’s involvement.

British police and investigations from the intelligence services have produced hard forensic evidence which was sufficient to charge two Russian nationals, identified as officers of the Russian Military Intelligence, GRU, for the attack on the Skripals.
