Disinfo: The EU and the West supported terrorism in Syria and now don’t want to help the Syrian refugees to return

Summary

The European Union said that it is not attending the conference in Damascus for the return of the Syrian refugees. Why there is no attempt to alleviate the problem from its roots? A big part of the Western world supported those ‘moderate rebels’ who ended up being terrorists, and now they are trying to wash their hands by saying that they are not ready.

Disproof

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West’s alleged support for terrorism in Syria.

The EU decided not to attend the conference because it was deemed premature, since conditions inside Syria at present do not lend themselves to the promotion of large-scale voluntary return, in conditions of safety and dignity in line with international law. This situation has been confirmed by independent media reporting.

Contrary to the claim, the EU has never supported terrorism in Syria. In fact, many of its members such as France and Germany have been actively fighting terrorism on Syrian territory while 19 EU members have backed counter-terrorism mission Operation Inherent Resolve and sent troops to neighbouring Iraq. Pro-Kremlin media frequently label all opposition against President Bashar Al Assad as “terrorist”, as a mean to deny it any legitimacy.

See other examples of these disinformation narratives on the EU and Syria, such as claims that the EU supports terrorists and not the sovereignty of Syria; that Western sanctions prevent the return of Syrian refugees; that the European Council wants to starve the Syrian people; or that Europe calls for a separatist project in northeastern Syria.

This disinformation message appeared in the same TV programme than the claim that “It is proven that the EU and the US-backed ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria, Yemen and Iraq”.

US Army raided a CIA facility in Germany to seize Dominion servers

The Dominion scandal is spreading slowly, also because the American and European media – all of them hostile to President Donald Trump – wish to cover it up. The Dominion software used for the electoral counts in the US presidential elections manipulated the votes in favour of the Democratic candidate. This discovery led a few days ago a US Army tactical team to raid a CIA facility in Frankfurt, Germany, to seize Dominion servers and system logs. Gina Haspel’s CIA was not informed in advance of this raid.

Disproof

The story is part of an emerging pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative seeking to delegitimise the conduct and results of the 2020 US presidential election by alleging that the Dominion electoral software – one of the software used by voting machines in the US – has deleted millions of pro-Trump votes in the November 2020 presidential elections.

This unsubstantiated claim has been spread by US far-right conspiratorial websites, and has been debunked here and here.

Georgia is under the Western control

West made Georgia vote for drug addiction and torturersYou probably also remember how everyone yelled that Russia would interfere in these elections. Intervened? No. And the West? It is the Western ambassadors and Western observers who give legitimacy to Georgian elections (not the population of Georgia). And don’t say now no. They forced Georgians to rewrite the Constitution, laws and laid out an agenda for Georgia. And it’s fine if they force you to write percentages or confirm. Who will resist, who?!

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about lost sovereignty, about Western involvement in other countries' internal affairs, including elections. In this case, the narrative challenges Georgian statehood, claiming that Georgia is ruled by the West and cooperation with the Western institutions destroys the country's sovereignty.

There is no evidence of the US or any Western country's interference in the in country's internal affairs, including parliamentary elections in Georgia. Media Development Foundation's media monitoring results revealed that the narrative that the West is meddling in sovereign affairs of Georgia and virtually run the country, is one of the main trends of anti-Western propaganda and disinformation in the country.

Western countries provoking people in Armenia and Azerbaijan to discredit and break the ceasefire agreement

Some Western countries, through the available channels, provoke people in Armenia and Azerbaijan to discredit and break the ceasefire agreement, according to TASS.

Disproof

A conspiracy theory regarding the role of the West in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. There is no evidence that Western countries are trying to provoke citizens of both countries to be against the ceasefire agreement. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed the ceasefire agreement on 10 November 2020. According to the agreement, a Russian peacekeeping mission was allowed to come to Nagorna Karabakh. Some groups in both countries are against the Russian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno Karabakh because they consider that Russia is a threat for democracy in the region:

“Without information and consent of the people and the parliament, without any public discussion, without taking into account the opinion of the opposition and civil society, without any legal basis, the secret entry of the Russian peacekeeping contingent(to Nagorno Karabakh) at night is a serious threat to national interests and sharply contradicts the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan” says the National Council of Democratic Forces.

However, there is no proof that this attitude is provoked by some Western countries.
