Disinfo: European Parliament demands that Russian children's cartoon feature LGBT characters

Summary

The European Parliament has recently passed a resolution demanding that Masha and the Bear, a popular Russian children's cartoon, feature gay, lesbian, and transgender characters.

Is this the Europe which Russia is supposed to maintain relations with? What next? Will the EU order the pope to rewrite the Bible and specify which apostles are gay or transgender?

Disproof

The claim advances a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative painting Europe as a cesspit of deprivation and moral decay which, according to current Russian legislation, includes social acceptance of sexual minorities.

The statement was originally made by Panorama, a Russian website which publishes humorous stories masquerading as straightforward news items. The satirical element was apparently lost both on the studio guest who relayed the statement, and on the programme's host who accepted the claim at face value.

It should be noted that the TV personality in question not only has a proven track record of spreading pro-Kremlin disinformation, but has been repeatedly caught citing Panorama's "reports" as fact.

This disinformation narrative was originally aired on Rossiya 1 during the Voskresnyi vecher s Vladimirom Solovyovym TV show, but was removed prior uploading the show to YouTube.

Disinfo: There was a putsch in Ukraine and today the country is a totalitarian state

The putsch in Ukraine celebrated its seventh birthday on February 26. Seven years ago, the coverage of the events on the Maidan in Kyiv was euphoric, and the narrative disseminated by the media was hard to beat for simplicity: The people of Ukraine longed for democracy and Western values, and therefore desired a connection to the EU, which represented and guaranteed precisely these values.[...]

This revolution was called the "Revolution of Dignity" and represents the awakening of Ukrainian society to a better, Western world. For this purpose, the direct interference of Western states in the internal affairs of Ukraine was a legitimate means, after all, it was about promoting democracy and freedom - it was about supporting the legitimate aspirations of the vast majority of people in Ukraine. It was a good project.

In the meantime, the German media has become quite quiet about Ukraine. This is due to the fact that Ukraine is further away from Western values, democracy, the rule of law and freedom than ever before. On the contrary, Ukraine is tipping over into totalitarianism and is destroying everything in the country that could be summarised under the title "European values".

[...]

Yes, it is becoming increasingly clear that Ukraine is a totalitarian state. And it could only become so with the vigorous help of Western states.

Disproof

There was no coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014; this is a longstanding pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine's Euromaidan protests.

Despite a challenging geopolitical security setting, with the ongoing Russian-aggression in the east of the Ukrainian state, there is no proof that Ukraine is tipping towards totalitarism. The democracy watch-dog Freedom House rates Ukraine status as "partly free", giving it a score of 62 out of 100 possible points. Russia, for comparison, ranks only 20 out of 100 and is rated as "not free", Ukraine's northern neighbour Belarus ranks 19 out of 100.

Disinfo: The Navalny case was a staged poisoning

RT is said to be talking about "suspected poisoning," which emerges from another email. This one is from February. Well, RT took its time with that one. The alleged statement had come at a time when there was no longer any doubt about Navalny's poisoning. It is a journalistic problem for Der Spiegel that announcements of the government and leaked claims of the BND are enough to have no doubts after so many proven war lies and false-flags. From what is publicly known about the [Navalny] case, I would speak of a staged poisoning.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative portraying the poisoning of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny as staged.

The RT German commentary casts doubt on Navalny's poisoning and speaks of a staging of the poisoning - a claim without any proof.

Disinfo: The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the process of militarisation of Italian society

A year of the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the process of the militarisation of Italy’s society, economy and its response to the pandemic. A global strategy is being implemented to strengthen authoritarian governance and the armed forces have become a cultural model to govern the transition from the pandemic crisis to “normalcy”

The Recovery Fund itself will be used as a resource-tool to legitimise the excessive power of the national and international military-industrial-financial complex. Military exercises, such as the NATO Dynamic Manta naval exercise, can also serve to convey false images of the military’s “efficiency” to justify the suffocating presence of the military in almost all public spheres.

Disproof

This is a recurring disinformation about the coronavirus pandemic and one of the common pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about a Deep State or global elites secretly ruling the world, that are exploiting the pandemic to establish authoritarian regimes in Western countries and around the world.

This article claims that there is a “global strategy” to exploit the Covid-19 pandemic in order to strengthen authoritarianism in the West, including Italy, which is allegedly being “militarised” in the interest of the global “military-industrial-financial complex”.
