Disinfo: Events in Haiti are “planned chaos” to execute foreign intervention

Summary

Everything that is taking place in Haiti is “planned chaos” to be able to execute an international intervention.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory not backed by any evidence, aiming to support a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about an imperialist West.

UN Secretary General António Guterres called on 10 October 2022 for ‘enhanced security support’ for Haiti and ‘a rapid action force” to help the country’s government to deal with increasing instability fuelled by gang violence. This call was made days after Haitian interim prime minister Ariel Henry had requested a foreign armed intervention to stabilize the country. As a result, the United States drafted a United Nations Security Council resolution encouraging the “immediate deployment of a multinational rapid action force” to Haiti, according to The Miami Herald. The measure led to violent protests and was rejected by some civil society groups and humanitarian organisations. However, nothing suggests any international hand behind destabilising events in Haiti. Actually, the situation of instability was largely created by violent armed gangs that have been a serious problem in the country for a long time, including the group of Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier, whose G9 gang confederation blocked the so-called Varreux fuel terminal in late September. These actions have “directly contributed to the economic paralysis and humanitarian crisis in Haiti”, according to a UN Security Council resolution drafted by Mexico and the US to impose sanctions on Cherizier and other gang members.

Pro-Kremlin outlets have been spreading disinformation for a long time about the role of the international community in Haiti, including multiple claims that the US and Colombian governments were directly involved in the murder of Haitian president Jovenel Moïse.

Disinfo: By attacking Nord Stream and the Crimean Bridge the West has crossed a dangerous line

If we talk about attacks on Nord Stream 2, as well as on the Crimean Bridge, then it is a signal that the West has obviously crossed a very dangerous line.

According to the doctrines of the same NATO countries, “damaging critical infrastructure facilities is regarded as an act of armed attack, which implies a conventional response” with the use of armed forces. The conclusion is that this was a step towards further escalation.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory and unsubstantiated claim from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of being responsible for the explosions of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines and the Crimean bridge. There is no evidence that any Western country is linked to the explosions and the leaks.

On 26 September 2022, the NS1 and the NS2 pipelines both ruptured. Denmark and Sweden view the Nord Stream pipeline leaks as 'deliberate actions'. Sweden, Germany and Denmark opened an investigation into the incident. This is the first step in determining what caused the leaks. Anything before that would be mere speculation and conspiracy theory.

Disinfo: NATO’s eastward expansion is a serious security threat to Russia

Russia sees NATO's eastward expansion as a serious security threat. When Moscow launched a military offensive against Kyiv at the end of February, one of its main demands was that Ukraine formally declare itself a neutral country that would never join any Western military alliance.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about NATO, portraying it as a belligerent organisation.

The claim about NATO "expansion" misrepresents the process of NATO enlargement. NATO does not "expand" but considers the applications of candidate countries that want to join. NATO is a defensive alliance with primary aims to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security and territorial integrity of its members. NATO constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's official policy is that "the Alliance does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia."

Disinfo: Ukraine is a terrorist state

By the voice of its foreign affairs minister, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine recognized that its regime uses terrorism. The prankers Vladimir Kuznetsov (Vovan) et Alexeï Stoliarov (Lexus) obtained this declaration through a Zoom meeting recently.

Disproof

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative aiming to discredit Ukraine and justify the criminal invasion of the country, as well as and the use of terrorism by Russia that lead to a PACE resolution on 13 October 2022.

The definition of terrorism is the use of violence to create a state of terror in the population to achieve a political goal. Britannica encyclopedia defines it as follows: Terrorism, the calculated use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective.
