Disinfo: Finnish invaders exterminated civilians in Karelia and have not been held responsible

Summary

Finnish invaders subjected civilian population to violence and extermination in Karelia during the WWII. The occupiers have not been held responsible for their crimes against residents of Karelia.

//

Finnish fascists built 14 concentration camps in Karelia.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation message focusing on Finland and Russia's Karelia during WWII. In October 2019, Russia's Security Service FSB released "secret documents" about the conditions in the Finnish camps. In April 2020, more documents were published, and former prisoners of the Finnish concentration camps asked the head of the Russian Investigating committee Alexander Bastrykin to launch an investigation into crimes of the occupying authorities during the war.

The researchers have studied the treatment of civilians detained in the Finnish camps established in the Finnish-occupied Soviet Karelia in WWII, and nothing suggests Finns aimed at a genocide of the Russian or Slavic nations. The word genocide is frequently used in pro-Kremlin disinformation, but it seldom corresponds to the actual definition of a genocide.

Immediately after the end of the war, a commission led by Russian Major General Gennady Kupryanov held hearings in the occupied territory and provided more than 2,400 pages of evidence. FSB materials have been open since 1996 and this has been known to the Finns. The probative value of the material was weak, as many of the testimonies were based on hearsay. Among other things, allegations about gas chambers and live burials have been raised in the Russian media. However, "nothing like this was revealed in the reports of the Allied Control Commission, not even in Finnish archival sources, memoirs or in many investigations into the occupation of East Karelia,"

“This is not a new problem either for Finland or for Russia. The issue of responsibility for Finland’s military policy was carefully studied in court after the war. The Allied Control Commission, where the Soviet Union was represented, chaired by Andrei Zhdanov, monitored the trial. As for judicial issues about the war between our countries, they were resolved in the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947, " the Finnish Foreign Ministry stated.

War reparations amounted to US $ 300 million, and after all, Finland was the only country after World War II to pay all reparations in full to the Soviet Union.

UFO’s, blaming China and the incursion in Venezuela are all US ruses to divert attention away from the coronavirus crisis

The coronavirus crisis created many problems in the US: not only it is the country with the highest number of deaths in the world, but the economy is also a disaster and unemployment is growing at a terrible pace. It is necessary to do something urgently to distract people. Now authorities confirm that UFOs are real, and even publish pictures and videos taken by military pilots. This could be a news bombshell, but it didn’t work in the United States as of today. So the White House came out with another plan: an avalanche of accusations against China as the source of all US problems. But this didn’t work either. So there is one remaining option: taking democracy and freedom somewhere, which is something that US citizens will definitely appreciate. Where? Venezuela, of course. They don’t want to deploy troops, so they use Colombian mercenaries as cannon fodder, this time not led by the CIA but by gentlemen of a private military company close to Donald Trump.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory with no evidence provided to support the conclusions presented. Though 3 videos of unidentified flying objects by the Pentagon were officially released on April 27, 2020, the footage had already been made public in 2017 and confirmed as authentic by US military authorities in 2019. The Pentagon explained that they decided to officially release them now after confirming that they do not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems.

There is no evidence of official US involvement in the failed military incursion of May 1, 2020 in Venezuela. Associated Press carried out a thorough investigation on the operation, including interviews with more than 30 people involved in it or familiar with its planning, but found no indication that US officials sponsored the actions of Jordan Goudreau, the promoter of the attempt. The US government has officially denied any participation or prior knowledge of the operation, a version that is supported by its amateurishness and lack of professionalism, highlighted by many independent observers. Goudreau is now under investigation by US federal authorities on potential charges of arms trafficking. In the past, Goudreau worked in the security detail of Donald Trump’s political events, as a Bellingcat open source investigation has shown, but this doesn’t mean that he is close to the president, contrary to the claim.

The US government is behind an attempted coup in Venezuela

The US wanted to take advantage of the chaos caused by the coronavirus and organise a little and bloody “colour revolution” to put the pro-American opposition in power in Venezuela. They have been caught red-handed: two US employees of private military companies (PMCs) were arrested by Venezuelan security forces. The US, always keen to accuse Russia of illegally employing PMCs for its geopolitical goals, is now in the middle of the scandal of a failed operation but, as usual, they don’t want to admit anything. Washington, even equipped with a print for dollars and having armed to the teeth a group of selected professional soldiers, was unable to organise a coup in a country weakened by a sharp fall of oil prices, sanctions and the coronavirus epidemic.

Disproof

Despite the claims, there is no evidence of official US involvement in the failed military incursion of May 1, 2020 in Venezuela. Associated Press carried out a thorough investigation on the operation, including interviews with more than 30 people involved in it or familiar with its planning, but found no indication US officials sponsored the actions of Jordan Goudreau, the promoter of the attempt, nor that US president Donald Trump had authorised covert operations against Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, something that requires congressional notification.

According to a Bellingcat open source investigation, some representatives of the Venezuelan opposition may be involved in the attempted incursion, at least in an early stage of its preparation. The US government, though, has officially denied any participation or prior knowledge of the operation, a version that is supported by its amateurishness and lack of professionalism, highlighted by many independent observers. Goudreau is now under investigation by US federal authorities on potential charges of arms trafficking. US experts pointed out that military contractors may have been motivated to act by the 15 million dollar reward put by the Trump Administration on Nicolás Maduro after his indictment on drug-trafficking charges.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has arrived in the occupied part of LPR

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in the occupied part of LPR.

According to sources, the trip was a protocol. It is connected with celebrations dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the German-Soviet War.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the occupied self-proclamed "people's republics" LPR and DPR.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not visit "the occupied part of LPR". On the 8th of May, Zelenskyy inspected the Severodonetsk-Stanytsia Luhanska road - this is a part of Luhansk region which is under Ukrainian control, it is not occupied and remains an integral part of Ukraine.
