Disinfo: German military colonel and CIA responsible for the American proxy war in Ukraine

The civil war in Ukraine began with a German military colonel. The German Colonel Schneider was supposed to control the striking power of the Kyiv troops shortly before the Ukrainian civil war. The secret mission almost ended in disaster.

What did the German military inspectors have to hide in East Ukraine? Except that their real objective in eastern Ukraine was to prepare for a proxy war. What a coincidence. Shortly before that, CIA chief Brennan had visited Kyiv incognito. After his secret visit, the provisional Ukrainian post-coup government moved tank columns eastwards. There are many indications that the Obama administration has asked the Germans for support at the front line. A request that could not be refused. The military inspectors got caught in the big chessboard policy.

Recurring multiple pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the war in Ukraine, attempting to portray it as a civil war or an American proxy war, prepared by the CIA. This new claim tries to connect a military OSCE-observer mission in 2014 with the outbreak of the war in the Donbas. There is no civil war in eastern Ukraine, nor is there any connection between a military OSCE Observation Mission in 2014 and the outbreak of war in eastern Ukraine. The claim disregards the extensive factual evidence confirming ongoing Russian military presence in Donbas. The war in eastern Ukraine is not a civil conflict, but an act of aggression by the Russian armed forces that began in February 2014.

Additionally, there was no coup d'état in Ukraine. The spontaneous onset of the Euromaidan protests was an organic reaction by numerous parts of the Ukrainian population to former President Yanukovych’s sudden departure from the promised Association Agreement with the European Union in November 2013. See the full debunk of this disinformation claim here.

On the military observer-mission, under the auspices of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE):

Pro-Russian separatists held an unarmed OSCE-military observer captive, including four Germans, for eight days in Sloviansk. The military observers had been captured on 26 April 2014 during a reconnaissance mission in eastern Ukraine. The group also included a Dane, a Pole and a Czech. A Swedish officer was released on medical reasons. Unlike the official and civilian OSCE observers in Ukraine, whose deployment required the consent of all member states, the military inspection teams visit individual member states at their invitation to verify information on weapon systems or manoeuvres. The OSCE inspection team deals only with the Ukrainian military, its positions and weapons. The inspection team was invited to Ukraine at the beginning of the crisis and its focus of work has been shifted to the East. The host country, Ukraine was responsible for the safety of the guests. The military observers were unarmed.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about German-US relations. Pro-Kremlin outlets often use this narrative about different countries being under the American thumb. The trope has been used frequently, with several similar cases in the EUvsDisinfo database: Germany is a vassal of the US; Germany is the executor of US hegemony over Europe; The USA is controlling Europe through occupied Germany; Germany will have to choose between defending Europe's interest and catering to Washington.

Removal of Konev monument insults the Elbe Day and joint fight against coronavirus

In light of joint fight against the coronavirus outbreak many controversial issues in US-Russia relations retreat a little bit. Their cooperation in fighting coronavirus revives the spirit of the Elbe Day. The decision of Prague 6 district to remove the monument to Soviet marshal Ivan Konev goes contrary to this spirit. Moreover, the First Ukrainian Front, whose regiment met American troops on the Elbe River, was under Konev’s command. Therefore, the monument’s removal is an insult to the Elbe Day and the joint fight against coronavirus.

This is another example of disinformation concerning the removal of Konev's monument in Prague. The speculation that this decision insults the Elbe Day and the joint fight against coronavirus is far-fetched and unreasonable, especially considering that the decision was made in September 2019, several months before the coronavirus outbreak.

The democratically elected municipal council of Prague 6 voted for the removal of the statue. Using the protocol of the Politbureau's assembly, Czech historians established that on 8-14 May 1968 Konev chaired the Soviet military delegation sent to Prague to prepare the military invasion of Czechoslovakia. Konev was also chief of the Soviet troops in East Germany during the Berlin wall crisis in 1961. In other words, the Red Army brought not only liberation but also the terror to Czechia, as the mayor of Prague 6, Ondřej Kolář, reminded.

The end of “Chimerica” prevented morbid fantasies of Russophobes

The US and its allies speak about China’s responsibility for the coronavirus pandemic. There are no proofs of Chinese implication in the COVID-19 creation just as no proofs of Russia’s implication were in the Skripals’ case. Despite the absence of whatever proofs NATO countries organised a large anti-Russian campaign. Now the West is preparing a much more aggressive anti-Chinese campaign aimed to undermine China’s economy and geopolitical status. The US is abandoning a globalisation model which contributed to China’s economic development.

China is becoming the main adversary for the US and its NATO allies. A big confrontation between the EU and China can result in armed conflict. Russia is the main beneficiary of this development because the global order based on Chinese-American alliance (“Chimerica”) will no longer be possible. “Chimerica” could become the worst scenario for Russia, Russia would not be able to withstand “Chimerica.”

Under “Chimerica” Russia would have to become part of Western civilisation on American terms and would have to abandon its sovereignty. The most morbid thoughts and sadistic fantasies of Russophobes could become real. Russia would be deprived of nuclear arms, its territory would be reduced to the boundaries of the Moscow principality, it would give away its territories to Germany and Ukraine and would pay compensations for the so-called Soviet occupation to the Baltic states. Russia would also have to bring apologies for the victory over Hitler and to recognize the Red Army a criminal organisation. The Abrams tanks would run through the Red Square. In the absence of “Chimerica” Russia will be a third global power benefiting from US-China conflict.

This is a recurrent conspiracy trope, consistent with recurring pro-Kremlin propaganda narratives about Russophobia and the West's deliberate anti-Russian activities. It offers a variety of morbid speculations about negative consequences Russia could suffer in case of US-China global alliance, the so-called "Chimerica."

As for China's implication in the spread of coronavirus, at least four federal class-action lawsuits have been filed in the US against the Chinese government that aim to recover trillions of dollars in damages for what plaintiffs allege is China's failure to contain the coronavirus outbreak and notify the international community about its danger. Legal experts believe the chance of these actions leading to any actual recoveries is slim.

Some in the US want to prevent China from explaining its efforts to deliver aid against Covid-19

When Condoleezza Rice said that “we shouldn’t let China shift the narrative on what it did with Covid-19”, she was referring to the fact that Chinese authorities delivered humanitarian aid to the affected countries once they overcame the outbreak in their country. Rice is part of an administration that was planning a war with China for 2015.

This is a deliberate distortion of the words of former US Secretary of State and Hoover Institution Fellow, Condoleezza Rice, who actually said, in an online interview with the site RealClear Politics: “[Chinese authorities] are going to try to shift the narrative from their initial responsibility for not fessing up to what was happening, to we got on top of it and this is how we helped the world. That's how they're going to shift the narrative. Don't let it happen”. As it is clear from the original interview, she wasn’t referring to obscuring China’s aid deliveries, as claimed, but to hiding China’s alleged initial mistakes in handling the pandemic and concealing its severity.

Allegations that the Bush Administration was planning a war with China for 2015 are conspiratorial thinking not backed up with any evidence. On the contrary, Sino-US relations experienced a sustained period of unprecedented stability during George W. Bush's presidency (2000-2008), leading to increasing economic and international cooperation. In 2001, President Bush signed a proclamation granting China permanent normal trading relations (PNTR status) with the United States. There is no reason to think that the US may have been secretly preparing for an armed conflict with Beijing.
