Disinfo: Historical tensions between Georgia and Abkhazia to blame on Turkey

Alienation between Georgians and Abkhaz is linked to the ethnic Turk, Konstantin Ozgan, who acted on the instructions of Turkey and Muslim North Caucasians.

No fact confirms any political links between the Turkish state and Konstantin Ozgan, who was actively involved in the political unrest in Abkhazia and held senior positions in Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and later in occupied Abkhazia. Ozgan was a Soviet Army major and has been awarded an Honorary Order. Further debunking at Myth Detector.

Cases in the EUvsDisinfo database focus on messages in the international information space that are identified as providing a partial, distorted, or false depiction of reality and spread key pro-Kremlin messages. This does not necessarily imply, however, that a given outlet is linked to the Kremlin or editorially pro-Kremlin, or that it has intentionally sought to disinform. EUvsDisinfo publications do not represent an official EU position, as the information and opinions expressed are based on media reporting and analysis of the East Stratcom Task Force.

Pesco is a set-up enabling the US to supervise yet another major infrastructure project in Europe

Pesco (Permanent Structured Cooperation on security and defence) does not indicate Europe’s independence. It is a set-up enabling the US to supervise yet another major infrastructure project in Europe.

The US is not an EU member state. PESCO is a Treaty-based framework and process to deepen defence cooperation amongst EU Member States who are capable and willing to do so. The aim is to jointly develop defence capabilities and make them available for EU military operations. Enhanced defence capabilities of EU Member States will also benefit NATO. They will strengthen the European pillar within the Alliance and respond to repeated demands for stronger transatlantic burden sharing.

Soros and UNICEF prohibiting boys to be boys and girls to be girls in Georgia

Georgian government passed a decree No 488 on pre –school state standards, according to which children should not be divided as boys and girls. These standards are created by the Georgian Education Ministry and UNICEF and prepared with the support of international organisations World Vision’s Georgia representation, Open – Society Georgia and the US Embassy.

No evidence given. UNICEF cannot decide over Georgia's school programme. Soros is often blamed for anything in pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets.

Sweden under pressure to adopt Islamic national flag

A social media campaign is pressuring Sweden to adopt a Turkish-style flag due to Islam’s rapid growth in the country, the campaign’s hashtag being #ForBetterSweden.

There are no plans to change the Swedish flag. In fact, Swedish fact checker initiative Viralgranskaren have found that the false campaign originates from the webforum 4chan, known for its trolling and spreading of disinformation. There is no indication that the campaign would be serious. Rather, the campaign seems to be staged for the purpose of provoking trolls on the 4chan web forum. This has been done, among other things, by tweets under the newly created hash tag #ForBetterSweden, fake propaganda images and altered screenshots from newspapers such as Slate and Buzzfeed. The similar site 8chan has a thread about the project. www.metro.se/artikel/4chan-anv%C3%A4ndare-bakom-falsk-namninsamling-f%C3%B6r-att-%C3%A4ndra-sveriges-flagga,
