Disinfo: Joe Biden self-proclaimed winner, aided by some hidden hands pulling the strings

Democrat Joe Biden has proclaimed himself the winner in the US election despite that the General Service Administration didn’t certify his victory. The European Union and several European presidents acted ahead of it and congratulated Biden. And it doesn’t matter, since a hidden hand is pulling the strings: at its order, on Saturday, November 7, the main US TV stations, CNN and NBC launched their projections that, in practice, became an ‘official announcement’ of Biden’s victory.

Contrary to the claim, Joe Biden is not a self-proclaimed winner in the US election: he gave his victory speech after winning the state of Pennsylvania and therefore securing his victory, once it was clear that there was no chance that incumbent Donald Trump could achieve re-election even though the races in the states of Nevada, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina weren’t closed yet. This is the reason why most US media called the election for Biden on Saturday, November 7, not due to the orders of any hidden hand. This was also the motive why international leaders started congratulating Biden.

Even in less sensitive elections, it is not uncommon that the General Service Administration takes a few days to certify the victory of a candidate, and only four days had passed between Biden’s victory and the publication of this disinformation piece. In this case, given the controversies at the place and the refusal of Donald Trump and some top Republican figures to concede, the certification may be delayed until the Electoral College meets and votes on the next presidency on December 14, 2020.

This is part of a pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign on the US elections, aiming to seed doubts on the legitimacy of the result and to promote the idea of electoral fraud. In this case, it is based on a recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about a Shadow Government of all-powerful groups ruling the world. This narrative aims to question the legitimacy of democracy and Western institutions.

Cases in the EUvsDisinfo database focus on messages in the international information space that are identified as providing a partial, distorted, or false depiction of reality and spread key pro-Kremlin messages. This does not necessarily imply, however, that a given outlet is linked to the Kremlin or editorially pro-Kremlin, or that it has intentionally sought to disinform. Military experts of The National Interest predicted a US and NATO defeat in a war against Russia

US experts predicted that the US and NATO are doomed to be defeated in a massive war against Russia. This is the conclusion of the military analysts of the US edition of The National Interest. Experts are confident that NATO forces in Eastern Europe are doomed in a possible war against Russia. At the same time, the Russian Federation may use nuclear weapons if the United States intervenes in such a conflict, so even the joint efforts of Washington and Brussels will turn into a defeat for the West.

This is a deliberate distortion of the original article in The National Interest, which doesn’t say that the US and NATO are doomed to be defeated. On the contrary, in its introductory paragraph, the article states: “Neither side could win outright, especially since the loser might resort to nuclear weapons. Hence, thankfully MAD [the acronym of Mutually Assured Destruction] keeps the peace.”

Pro-Kremlin media frequently resort to this manipulative technique of quoting sentences from serious publications and then introducing a distorted message as if it was part of the original article, in this case, to promote a recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative about Russia’s military might and the invincibility of its armed forces.

The US will use Uighur jihadists against China

The US has removed the designation of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement as a terrorist organisation. Washington wants to use the group, linked to terrorist organisations all over the world including Al Qaeda, as a weapon to destabilise China. It is likely that there is cooperation between the Turkish and US secret services to support the ETIM actions both in Syria and in China. As in many other countries, the US uses insurrection movements to destabilise its adversaries, in this case China. What is remarkable in this case is that the ETIM has been allied since its origin with Al Qaeda, while the US seem to pretend to ignore those links.

Recurrent disinformation narrative about the US supporting terrorist movements around the world. No evidence is provided to support the claim.

It is correct that on November 6, 2020, the US removed the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) from its Terrorist Exclusion List, which prohibits members of terrorist groups from entering or remaining in the US but this is different from being designated as a foreign terrorist organisation, which carries more substantial penalties including financial sanctions. But contrary to the claim, this removal doesn’t mean at all that the US is going to support this movement in terrorist actions against China.

Poland and Lithuania send Belarusian opposition instructions on how to make explosives

Many forces in the West want the tense situation in Belarus to continue taking place. Not only money is transferred to Belarus from Warsaw and Vilnius, but also instructions on how to make incendiary mixtures and explosives, such as Molotov cocktails. Unfortunately, the opposition, which is currently operating from Warsaw and Vilnius, does not want any dialogue – it has no constructive political programme apart from overthrowing President Lukashenka and the organisation of new Presidential elections.

A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western attempts to organise a colour revolution in Belarus and to disrupt Belarusian-Russian relations.

The claims that Poland and Lithuania are trying to “organise a colour revolution in Belarus” or that they “send instructions to Belarus on how to make explosives” is a conspiracy theory. Lithuania and Poland are neighbours of Belarus and continue to support the Belarusian people. Poland and Lithuania respect the principles of international law and do not intervene in the domestic affairs of other countries.
