Disinfo: Kyiv’s foreign partners inflame war in Donbas to keep sanctions against Russia

Summary

All these [reforms in Ukraine, such as decommunisation] are taking place under the blessing of the so-called “foreign partners” who need to continue the conflict in Ukraine in order to keep sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that international sanctions against Russia are not justified.

Since March 2014, the EU has progressively imposed restrictive measures against Russia. The measures were adopted in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and the deliberate destabilisation of Ukraine.

In March 2015, the European Council linked the duration of those economic restrictions to the complete implementation of the Minsk agreements. The EU remains ready to reverse its decisions and reengage with Russia when it starts contributing actively and without ambiguities to finding a solution to the crisis.

See similar case claiming that Ukraine's Western protectors are inflaming war in Donbas and that European Council sanctions are irrational and unjustified.

When the coronavirus outbreak began in Wuhan, Washington was celebrating with champagne – its competitor would not come to senses soon. However, then the virus moved westwards and despair began. After all, China has been through, the country is coming to life first and taking strategic positions. China has more chances to become a winner than the USA.

Disproof

Recurring conspiracy theory on coronavirus, the US and its economic rivalry with China.

One of a dozen of other similar cases about the coronavirus, which is consistent with the narrative that the spread of coronavirus is in the interest of the US, UK, and the West to weaken China economically.

In The Hague, there is no case against Russia related to Ukraine

It is unclear to which case against Russia in the court in The Hague the materials from the interviews with Girkin and Poklonskaya can be attached. In The Hague, there is no case against Russia in relation to Ukraine.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the lawsuit trial between Ukraine and Russia at the International Court of Justice in Hague. Read a similar case, claiming that Ukraine’s lawsuit against Russia is groundless.

Ukraine has filed a complaint against Russia to the International Court of Justice in Hague on 17 January 2017, concerning the events in separatist areas of Ukraine, Donetsk and Lugansk, including the downing of the MH17 Malaysian plane in July 2014. Ukraine invoked the violation of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD). Ukraine requested the Court ”to adjudge and declare that the Russian Federation bears international responsibility, by virtue of its sponsorship of terrorism and failure to prevent the financing of terrorism under the Convention, for the acts of terrorism committed by its proxies in Ukraine”, and ”to adjudge and declare that the Russian Federation, through its State organs, State agents, and other persons and entities exercising governmental authority, including the de facto authorities administering the illegal Russian occupation of Crimea, and through other agents acting on its instructions or under its direction and control, has violated its obligations under the CERD”.
