DISINFO: Lithuania and CIA support Russian opposition's battle against their own country and people

SUMMARY

In alliance with Western secret services and Lithuanian conservatives, Russian “opponents of the regime” turn their battle with the authorities into one aganist their own country and people. They themselves become Western mercenaries.

<…>

Russian politicians could not have any common interests with centres of power, which work to destroy their own country, for inner destabilisation of the state provokes bloodshed.

<…>

Could Belarusian politicians wish poverty for Belarus? Could Russian politicians wish disasters and bloodshed for Russia’s citizens? The CIA, Lithuanian conservative, Emanuelis Zingeris could. Russian and Belarusian politicians could not.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation about Lithuania and the protests in Belarus, Russia, advancing a recurring disinformation narrative about “colour revolutions”.

The latest protests started in Russia in January 2021, following detention of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny. The EU has condemned the detention of Alexei Navalny and called for his immediate release.

The protests in Belarus erupte to contest the results of the presidential election in Belarus on the 9th of August, which were not monitored by independent experts and are largely considered fraudulent by both international observers and a big part of Belarusian society. On 19 August 2020, the European Council called the Belarusian elections neither free nor fair. In October 2020, the EU-Council imposed sanctions against 40 individuals identified as responsible for repression and intimidation against peaceful demonstrators, opposition members and journalists in the wake of the 2020 presidential election in Belarus, as well as for misconduct of the electoral process.

Lithuania has been to outspoken about the violation of human rights in Russia. Vilnius also supports Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and the people of Belarus in their fight for change and democracy. Lithuania, nor any other country aims to destroy Russia or Belarus.

See similar examples of disinformation which try to discredit the Russian opposition and accuse foreign powers of preparing colour revolutions in Belarus or/and Russia: Neo-liberal opposition and their foreign sponsors use children in Russia to increase their own wealth; Navalny is used as an instrument be the Western special services; Poland and Lithuania will continue their active interference in the situation in Belarus; Poland and Lithuania finance Svetlana Tikhanovskaya’s political agenda.
