80 years ago the parliaments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania proclaimed the creation of their respective Soviet Socialist Republics. Today, those countries interpret their status inside the USSR as an occupation, but for many people, at that time the Union was real salvation from the Nazis. Experts in the Baltic countries tend to read the integration of these nations in the USSR in 1940 as some kind of intervention of Soviet forces in the internal affairs of those countries. However, most of them ignore or don’t consider the events that led to this scenario.
Lithuania and Poland have been preparing colour revolutions in the western regions of Belarus for 30 years now.
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western attempts to instigate colour revolutions. The pro-Kremlin media frequently use disinformation narratives about popular protests allegedly incited and funded by Western states around the world, including colour revolutions in post-Soviet states, the “Arab Spring” revolts, Euromaidan in Ukraine, protests in Catalonia and others. Poland fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of Belarus, it does not have any territorial claims against its neighbours and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. See earlier disinformation cases alleging that Belarusian opposition leaders prepare a coup with US military assistance, that the West dreams of tearing Belarus apart from Russia and to organise a Ukraine-like scenario, that Belarusian opposition leader Andrei Sannikau prepares a coup with US military assistance, and that pro-Western Belarusian opposition prepares a revolution with the assistance of armed Ukrainian nationalists.
