Disinfo: Lithuania and Poland are preparing colour revolutions in the western regions of Belarus

Summary

Lithuania and Poland have been preparing colour revolutions in the western regions of Belarus for 30 years now.

Disproof

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western attempts to instigate colour revolutions. The pro-Kremlin media frequently use disinformation narratives about popular protests allegedly incited and funded by Western states around the world, including colour revolutions in post-Soviet states, the “Arab Spring” revolts, Euromaidan in Ukraine, protests in Catalonia and others.

Poland fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of Belarus, it does not have any territorial claims against its neighbours and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that Belarusian opposition leaders prepare a coup with US military assistance, that the West dreams of tearing Belarus apart from Russia and to organise a Ukraine-like scenario, that Belarusian opposition leader Andrei Sannikau prepares a coup with US military assistance, and that pro-Western Belarusian opposition prepares a revolution with the assistance of armed Ukrainian nationalists.

Only 10% of Belarussians oppose the union with Russia

Only 10% of Belarussians don’t support (oppose) the union with Russia.

Disproof

A nationwide representative poll, which was conducted in December 2019 and published in February this year by the Belarusian Analytical Workshop (BAW), shows that in Belarus the number of supporters of the union with Russia in Belarus decreased from 60.4% to 40.4% during 2019. At the same time, BAW records an increase in pro-European sympathy over the same period from 24.4 to 32 percent. The poll was conducted against the backdrop of protests against Belarusian-Russian integration. 1061 people were interviewed.

Replying to a question “In what union of states would it be better for the people of Belarus to live in – the EU or Russia?”, 40,4 of respondents favored the union with Russia, and 32% – the EU.
