Disinfo: Lithuania and Poland should end their mockery of the migrants

Summary

International organisations should force Lithuania and Poland to end their mockery of migrants. There were a lot of facts of violation of human rights on the border. Lithuania and Poland refuse to fulfil international obligations and offer asylum to migrants.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation about Poland, Lithuania and the migration situation on the border of the EU and Belarus.

Lithuania and Poland, in reaction to the Lukashenka-manufactured crisis, are implementing a pushback strategy and are not allowing migrants to cross the border illegally. The European Union did not call for changes in this practice.

In 2021, LithuaniaPoland and Latvia faced an influx of irregular migrants arriving via Belarus. Earlier, Belarus had terminated cooperation with the EU to stem illegal migration. This was Lukashenka's answer to the European Union sanctions on the political regime of Belarus (read more about sanctions here).

There is plenty of evidence that the Belarusian authorities have instigated the ongoing migration crisis in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia. Lukashenka's regime is using migrants from the Middle East as "political and hybrid" tools against Lithuania and the entire EU. Commissioner Ylva Johansson said, inter alia: "The authoritarian regime in Belarus is exploiting human beings for political reasons: this is completely unacceptable."

The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that situation on the EU-Belarusian border is not a bilateral issue of Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus but a hybrid attack against the whole EU. The vice-president of the European Commission and high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy (HRVP) Josep Borrell stressed that responsibility for the migration crisis falls on the Lukashenka regime.

Disinfo: The US and NATO won’t hesitate to risk the lives of Ukrainians in a war

Ukrainians could be used by NATO and mostly by the US to start the conflict in Donbas. Those allies don’t hesitate to twist reality, pointing fingers at Russia and blaming it as a threat. The US is willing to do everything to continue in its dominant position, and if to do so it must risk the lives of Polish, Ukrainians or whoever, it will do. Some are willing to spark the fire as soon as possible, without considering that they can also get burnt and the great human damage that this may cause.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about NATO and about Ukraine as a pawn of Western powers, in this case as part of an ongoing disinformation campaign about Russia’s military buildup on Ukraine’s borders.

In fact, international concerns emerged in late October 2021 due to the concentration and transportation of Russian troops from other locations, tracked by military experts in the last months through satellite images, and which included the deployment of as more than 90,000 troops, as well as of certain specialized military units, electronic warfare systems and heavy-armoured vehicles. Altogether, these elements seem to point to the possibility of a Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory.

Disinfo: The West screams about Russian threat, but ignores violation of rights of minorities in Ukraine

Western cries and wails about “the build-up of Russian forces on the Ukrainian borders" are heard daily, and the “expected Russian aggression against Ukraine,” and Russian threats that shake the air, without anyone paying attention to the conscious and active activities taking place. They represent a continuous and deep violation of the rights of national minorities, especially linguistic, educational and cultural rights, in conjunction with a tendency to glorify Nazism, falsify history, and the desire to drown out any alternative viewpoints in the media field, including the closure of media outlets that are not in line with that general Western trend.

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative, part of an ongoing disinformation campaign aiming to deflect any Russian responsibility for the escalation of tensions with Ukraine as a result of Russia’s military build-up on the border. Read more about it in our analysis.

There is no ethnocide in Ukraine. The Russian culture - language and literature - (which the article is hinting at) was not touched in Ukraine. Kyiv adopted a Law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language, without discriminating against any languages. Read more about it here.

Disinfo: The goal of current tensions around Ukraine is to promote its integration into NATO

Among the main goals of the current hysteria about the concentration of Russian troops on Ukraine’s borders is to sabotage Nord Stream 2 and everything related to Ukraine’s NATO membership. With these tensions and the media hype, the aim is to encourage the process of integrating Ukraine into NATO, even without a formal procedure. This way more troops and long-range weapons can be deployed on its territory, which obviously will cause a response from Russia.

Disproof

The claim is false, part of an ongoing disinformation campaign about Russia’s military buildup in Ukraine’s borders, aiming to deflect any Russian responsibility for the increase of tensions.

Concerns about this buildup are very real, as the concentration and transportation of Russian troops from other locations have been tracked by military experts in the last months through satellite images, and includes the deployment of more than 90,000 troops, as well as of certain specialised military units, electronic warfare systems and heavy-armoured vehicles.
