Disinfo: Media censorship is openly introduced in the West

Summary

In the West, which during the Soviet Union times was for freedom of speech and opinion, now censorship of the media is openly introduced. Under the pretext of fighting dissent, the news is beginning to be ranked as "true Aryan" and fake. Whether it is fake news or not, it is supposedly determined by the algorithms of Google or Yandex. In fact, thousands of people sit and clean the air with their pens in accordance with the tasks set by the management of private corporations.

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about censorship and control of the media in the West.

It is not true, that the West is fighting dissent or that there are people censoring news and opinions that differ from “official narratives”. This claim does not reflect the reality of Western media, where a wide range of political opinions is represented.

The European Union as a whole is committed to respecting the freedom and pluralism of the media as well as the right to freedom of expression - which includes the right to receive and impart information without interference by public authority. Currently, the EU is preparing a 'Media Freedom Act', a law that will include rules on cross-border functioning and ownership of media inside the EU to prevent government interference.

According to Reporters Without Borders, the nations with the most press freedom and freedom of speech are Western countries, with European nations predominating, as well as Canada and the United States. In contrast, Russia, with increasing authoritarian trends, ranks 150th out of 180 in the press freedom rankings, where researchers say the Kremlin is determined to control the Internet and the media. For an in-depth look at the situation of Russian state-controlled mass media read here.

Read similar cases claiming that The West cannot cope with freedom of opinion and imposes censorship, that Freedom of expression allowed only to denounce white Americans as racist or that The era of liberal democracy and freedom of speech is over – corporations and states are unified in promotion of censorship.

Disinfo: NATO is Russophobic and threatens the mankind

It is profitable for Western nations and NATO to keep the Donbas conflict going in order to weaken Russia. The existence of NATO is a constant threat for mankind because the sense of NATO’s existence is to make war and aggression around itself and to enrich its main beneficiaries. It is important to understand that the world’s biggest military and political bloc is based on Russophobia and greed, which inevitably causes conflicts.

Disproof

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets, claiming that NATO is a hostile military bloc whose main objective is to inflict harm on Russia.

NATO is a defensive alliance, whose primary aims are to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security and territorial integrity of its members. Moreover, NATO poses no threat to Russia. During the Warsaw summit in July 2016, NATO has made it clear that "The Alliance does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia". This was also reaffirmed in the Brussels Summit Communiqué of 14 June 2021.

Disinfo: Poland should stop its anti-Belarusian propaganda and start talks with Lukashenka

Poland has tried to solve the migration crisis by many steps: it has already spent billions on the border wall, declared Belarus as an “aggressor” and created an “amusement park” at the border for celebrities. However, no one thinks about the easiest solution in this situation – it is necessary to go to Minsk and talk. Before starting the talks with Belarus, Poland should liquidate all the centres [and media] involved in the anti-Belarusian propaganda. This step will be beneficial to the reset of bilateral relations and to the situation of the Polish minority in Belarus.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets about the migration situation on the EU-Belarus borders.

The situation was manufactured by Belarus as a response to EU sanctions imposed on the Lukashenka regime for its oppressive measures against the political opposition. There is plenty of evidence that the Belarusian authorities have instigated the ongoing irregular migration flows to the EU borders via Belarus.

Disinfo: NATO exercises violate the key principles of the NATO-Russia Founding Act

NATO military exercises in the Black Sea serve the aspirations of the US and its allies to strengthen the containment policy against Russia. The manoeuvres violate a key part of the Russia-NATO founding act, as NATO pledged not to "move its military infrastructure eastward, on the territory of new members.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about NATO and its military exercises.

The Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between NATO and the Russian Federation, signed in 1997, does not prohibit NATO from moving its military infrastructure eastward, on the territory of its new members.
