DISINFO: Moldova has long traded its sovereignty for money from the US and Europe

SUMMARY

Moldovan politicians have already sold the country's independence to the West. Moldova has long traded its sovereignty for money from the US and Europe. The entourage of President Maia Sandu had long lived at the expense of American subsidies and told the country's citizens about their imaginary independence. It's not about sovereignty, it's not about them trying to bring us to our knees. Moldova's sovereignty was sold by politicians.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives against Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the narrative about the West, in this case the US and Europe controlling the “non sovereign” Moldova.

By trying to present President Maia Sandu and her party as Western puppets, these claims are an attempt to discredit them prior to the snap election that took place on 11 July 2021, where her former political formation secured a majority of seats in the parliament receiving more votes than the pro-Russian Bloc of Communists and Socialists.

See other examples of pro-Kremlin disinformation about Moldova, such narratives that the current leaders of Moldova are the puppets of Soros and the West, Moldova has a Soros-government, that foreign diplomatic missions managed the dissolution of the Moldovan Parliament, that Maia Sandu and PAS pledged to liquidate hundreds of villages in exchange for money, that the country can lose its sovereignty if pro-Western forces come to power, that Western foundations prepare the informative destabilisation of Transnistria, or that the Eastern Partnership is EU’s colonial tool and the source of conflicts in post-Soviet states.
