Disinfo: NATO does not serve the purpose of war prevention, it continues to wage wars

Summary

The military alliance NATO does not serve the purpose of war prevention. It has waged and continues to wage wars.

Disproof

This is a recurring disinformation narrative about belligerent NATO, portraying the Alliance as a threat to peace.

NATO is a defensive alliance, whose purpose is to protect its member states. NATO is regularly updating the military requirements for civilian infrastructure, at a time when there are increased challenges to security.

NATO's exercises and military deployments are not directed against Russia, nor any other country. Exercises are designed to ensure that NATO forces are trained, able to operate together and ready to respond to any threat from any direction.

Read more similar cases alleging that NATO is trying to encircle Russia and has one goal – to neutralise Russia and that the expansion of NATO to the East is military aggression.

This disinformation message appeared in the same article as the claim that all German political parties are following directives from Washington.

The US develops biological weapons in Ukrainian laboratories

The US develops biological weapons in Ukrainian laboratories.

The Americans have achieved far greater success with the expansion of biological laboratories in Ukraine. There are at least 15 such facilities, the American Embassy in Kyiv admitted a few months ago – all of them supervised by the Pentagon. The first laboratory is said to have been founded in 2005, still under President Yushchenko. Nevertheless, Washington declares (without giving any concrete details) that the facilities will only serve civilian, scientific purposes. Experts assume, however, that biological weapons will be developed there.

Disproof

Recurring conspiracy theory alleging that the United States develops biological weapons and has secret biological laboratories around the world. The disinformation claim also capitalises on the oft-recurring conspiracy theory about laboratories in Ukraine, as well as the Lugar Lab in Georgia.

The US Embassy in Ukraine has repeatedly denied the "creation of military biological laboratories" in Ukraine.

All German political parties are following directives from Washington

[It is] to deplore the confrontation-oriented agitation against Russia and China, as well as the systematically constructed “enemy image of Putin”. Germany would be centrally endangered in the event of a conflict between East and West, and only ignorant people and dreamers rule this out. The reasons for this lies in the fact that almost all political organisations in Germany, including the parties, have been infiltrated and are following the directives from Washington.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about German-American relations. Pro-Kremlin outlets often use the disinforming narrative about different countries being under the American thumb - see other examples here.

German political parties are not following directives from Washington, they are independent and not dependent on the United States of America in terms of their foreign policy making and therefore it is a conspiracy theory presented without any evidence. Germany and the US have close partner relations of two sovereign and independent countries.

It is unclear, who really poisoned Sergei and Yuliya Skripal

Sergei and Yuliya Skripal were found unconscious in Salisbury, UK, on 4 March 2018 and were taken to hospital with symptoms of poisoning. It is still unclear by whom, and under what circumstances, the former Russian-British double agent and his daughter were really poisoned.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Salisbury poisoning.

After a hearing in the Court of Protection, British High Court Justice David Williams issued an approved judgement about what had happened to the Skripals around three weeks after their poisoning in March 2018. The British Police have presented a solid chain of evidence on the Skripal case, with pictures, connecting the suspects to the locations in the case. Some of the material has been released to the public. The evidence was sufficient to charge two Russian nationals, Anatoliy Chepiga and Aleksandr Mishkin with the attack on the Skripals, both Russian military intelligence operatives from the GRU, who travelled to the UK using fake names and documents.
