Disinfo: NATO is at war with Russia with the hands of Ukrainians

Summary

If we talk about what is happening in Ukraine, it is not Russia that is at war. This is the collective West, this is NATO who is at war with Russia with the hands of Ukrainians.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about NATO and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

NATO is a defensive political and military alliance. The primary aim of the alliance is to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security and territorial integrity of its members.

NATO as an organisation is not involved in fighting in Ukraine. In response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, NATO has reinforced its support for capability development and capacity-building in Ukraine.

The West is not in war with Russia or Russians. NATO condemns in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine starting in February 2022, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked.

NATO member states provide Ukraine with military assistance to repel the unprovoked Russian aggression and not because of their alleged animosity towards Russia.

Western countries are supporting Ukraine with military, political and humanitarian aid and are simultaneously trying to find a diplomatic solution to the war against Ukraine.

At the Madrid Summit, NATO Leaders stated that the Alliance will continue political and practical support to Ukraine "as it continues to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russian aggression. In the longer term, we will assist Ukraine, and support efforts on its path of post-war reconstruction and reforms."

Since Russia began its aggressive actions against Ukraine, Russian officials have accused NATO of a series of threats and hostile actions. Read here about Russian Myths on NATO.

Disinfo: Russian language is banned in Ukrainian regions controlled by the Kyiv junta

The Russian language is banned in Ukrainian regions controlled by the Kyiv junta.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about alleged Russophobia in Ukraine. This claim is made in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

Ukraine passed a law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language in 2019, but this law only regulates the use of Ukrainian in the public spheres of life. Russian and other languages of national minorities can be freely used in private communication, religious ceremonies, in publishing, media and education. Therefore, the claim about Russian and other minority languages being discriminated against in Ukraine is manipulative.

Disinfo: Zelenskyy is banning Russian language, culture and history in Ukraine

They ban Russian language, writers and everything that reminds that Ukraine is also Russian land where Russian people live. The Russian language, culture and history may well be banned, which the Russophobe and lowly scum Zelenskyy and a gaggle of his buffoons are doing with enthusiasm. But the Russian people cannot be banned, these humans will stay in Ukraine.

Disproof

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russophobic Ukraine. These claims are made in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

During the last decade, especially after Russia illegally annexed Crimea and launched its aggression in Donbas in 2014 that have grown into a large-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukrainians’ national identity has seen a major boost, including the demand for broader use of the Ukrainian language in public spheres. Ukrainian Parliament passed a Law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language in 2019 aiming to ensure the use of the official language in the public sphere, notably, through availability of public and administrative services in Ukrainian. This legislation only regulates the use of Ukrainian in the public spheres of life while Russian and other languages of national minorities can be freely used in private communication and religious ceremonies.

Disinfo: EU uses CIS to contain Russia by all means: financial, economic, military

The EU uses the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to contain Russia. All means are used - from financial and economic to military ones. By granting Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates, the Union confirmed that it continues the line of active geopolitical exploration of the Commonwealth space.

Disproof

This is a mix of several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about belligerent West trying to encircle Russia, to divide post-Soviet countries and to isolate Russia.

As for the relations of the EU and CIS countries, they are based on mutual consent, bilateral interests and benefits. More, they are not directed against third parties. For example, the Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a joint policy initiative that aims to deepen and strengthen relations between the European Union (EU) and its Eastern neighbours: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Belarus has suspended its participation as of June 2021.
