Disinfo: US and NATO actions are escalating tensions in Caucasus

Summary

The actions of US and its NATO allies are not contributing to security and stability of the region. Washington and Brussels are actively developing military cooperation with Georgia and trying to turn the country into the main instrument for opposing Russia. The Alliance is committed to extensive military activity in the region.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on NATO belligerence towards Russia and on Russophobia.

NATO seeks no confrontation with Russia. NATO is a defensive alliance. Its purpose is to protect the member states. NATO's exercises and military deployments in the Black Sea are not directed against Russia or any other country. NATO has reached out to Russia consistently, transparently and publicly over the past 29 years. NATO enlargement is not directed against Russia. Every sovereign nation has the right to choose its own security arrangements. This is a fundamental principle of European security, one that Russia has also subscribed to, and should respect. NATO enlargement has brought more stability and prosperity to Europe, including Russia.

In 2014 at NATO Wales Summit the alliance agreed to offer Georgia a substantial package of assistance to strengthen Georgia's defence and interoperability capabilities with the Alliance. In August 2015, a NATO-Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Centre was inaugurated in Krtsanisi to contribute to the training and interoperability of Georgian and Alliance personnel. The Training Centre is not directed against Russia but contributes to stability by making Georgia's armed forces more professional, and by reinforcing the democratic controls over them. The main goal of all the training of the Georgian military with NATO experts is to increase the country's defence capability. Read more about NATO-Georgia relations here.

Baba Vanga predicted the coronavirus

Baba Vanga have predicted the coronavirus. The well-known blind Bulgarian clairvoyant Baba Vanga predicted the spread of the disease caused by a new type of coronavirus back in the 1970s. She believed that the disease would spread from Africa, not from China.

Disproof

This is part of pro-Kremlin media, spreading systematic disinformation and confusion about the coronavirus. See a similar case about a "prediction" made by Nostradamus here. Global epidemics have spread occasionally in all of human history, with or without the "predictions" of soothsayers.

In response to the outbreak of the corona virus the Chinese authorities have placed more than a dozen cities under quarantine. The World Health Organisation is working with Chinese authorities and global experts to learn more about the virus. The virus "2019-nCoV” comes from a family of viruses that include the common cold, and viruses such as SARS and MERS.

Soros’ “Army of Grant Eaters” is a threat to Armenian national security

The Soros Network, the “Army of Grant eaters” is a threat to the national security of Armenia. Because they spread anti-Russian sentiments and Russophobic propaganda. They want a deterioration in Armenian-Russian allied relations and thus, to weaken our security.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory, with no evidence given. This is one of the common Pro-Kremlin narratives about “Threatened Values”. The narrative is adapted to a wide range of topics and typically used to challenge progressive Western attitudes about the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBT groups, among others.

These narratives also portray George Soros and his foundation as a villainous and bent on destroying Armenia and other countries, threatening national values. Read similar cases claiming that Soros foundation is organising clashes in Armenia and serving foreign agendas aimed at the collapse of Armenian statehood and that Armenia is occupied by Soros. The most recent case is about Soros’ office involvement in active transgender propaganda.

Bill Gates is sponsoring the coronavirus

Last year, Bill Gates said that 33 million people could die from coronavirus in 250 days.

A few months ago, the head of Microsoft held an exercise called Event 201, which simulated an outbreak of a new virus that killed 65 million people in 18 months. The idea of the teachings is simple – globalization in the name of salvation. Well-known pharmaceutical giants and the Pentagon representatives took part in this exercise. The timing of the exercise cannot be a coincidence: when the exercises were conducted, the coronavirus did not exist. It should either be Nostradamus, or a person who created it [the virus]. Therefore, these exercises directly confirm Gates’s involvement in this problem.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory and a pro-Kremlin narrative about the coronavirus and Bill Gates.

There was in fact an exercise “Event 201” that took place in October that was hosted by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, that focused on emergency preparedness in the event of a "severe pandemic." But it didn’t make real-life predictions about death tolls.
