Disinfo: NATO troops’ presence in Ukraine is illegal – this is occupation

On 23 September US military aircraft flew over the Ukrainian capital. The United States have demonstrated their military presence in a satellite country to the world. If you didn’t know what occupation looks like, it looks like this. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is fully responsible for the illegal stay of foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine, as well as the fulfilment of combat missions by them.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine's loss of sovereignty

Similar stories appeared in the pro-Kremlin media following the flight of two US convertiplanes in the skies over Kуiv on September 23, and the military exercises Joint Efforts 2020 and Rapid Trident 2020, which were held in Ukraine.

NATO troops are temporarily admitted to Ukraine in accordance with the Law on Supporting the Decision of the President of Ukraine on the admission of units of armed forces of other states to the territory of Ukraine. The appendix to the Law details the dates, funding, as well as the number of foreign military and equipment that are allowed to stay in the country during 2020. Appendix 1 (p. 5) to this law states that, among other exercises, in the period from June to September, “up to 3,750 foreign servicemen with weapons and military equipment, up to 50 ships (boats and ships),” up to 2 submarines, up to 40 planes and helicopters, up to 90 units of wheeled vehicles,” the document says.

In addition, NATO troops are temporarily in Ukraine for the international military exercises of the Special Operations Forces. These have nothing to do with the "occupation of Ukraine".

The US influenced Poland and the Baltics to recognise Tsikhanouskaya

Under the US influence, the Baltic States and Poland recognised Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya as president of Belarus. The West helped her to receive 10% in the elections. The European Parliament with its resolution will no longer recognise Lukashenka after his term officially expires.

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on Belarus and Tikhanovskaya.

Often presented as American vassals or puppet states, Poland and the Baltic States are independent states, which shape their own foreign and domestic policies. The US is an important ally to the EU but EU policy is not determined by the US, as explained by the EU High Representative.

US activity in Armenia during the last years led to the 2018 revolution

The unprecedented US activity in Armenia during the last years of Barack Obama’s presidency led to the 2018 revolution, which brought journalist Nikol Pashinyan to power.

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that all protests in former socialist countries and power changes are orchestrated from abroad, especially from US or EU. See here a similar case about Belarus, claiming that the actions of protesters are controlled by foreign centers and here a case about the American billionaire George Soros being linked to the orange revolution and regime changes in Ukraine. Also, in line with the conspiracy theory about George Soros' involvement in the political affairs of the states.

The claim is made in the context of the intention of Armenian authorities to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union, saying that this is a consequence of the presence in the states' structures of persons who previously held positions within the George Soros Foundation. There is no evidence in either Armenia or other states that people who worked for the George Soros Foundations had any contribution to changing political regimes. The Open Society Foundation, sponsored by George Soros, and known in any countries as the Soros Foundation, is a network of independent groups working in many countries for justice, democratic governance and human rights. US wants anti-Russian forces in Belarusian government to wage war against Russia

NATO is preparing for nuclear war against Russia from the territory of Ukraine. This is the reason why the US needed the coup known as “Maidan” and the new Fascist government in Ukraine. Now they try to drag Belarus into this and bring anti-Russian forces into government to wage war against Russia.

The claim is part of an ongoing Russian disinformation campaign on Belarus based on recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives, such as accusing other countries of interference and portraying popular protests against electoral fraud in the country as a Western-led colour revolution. Also consistent with recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on NATO and Russophobia.

NATO does not provoke conflicts between sovereign countries and does not plan to wage a war against Russia. "Any claims that NATO is preparing an attack on Russia are absurd," NATO's official website says. NATO is a defensive alliance and does not pose a threat to Russia. Its purpose is to protect its member states.
