Disinfo: Navalny was “poisoned” at the right time: the blatant provocation put the issue of Nord Stream 2 on the agenda

The United States is helping to split Europe

The blatant provocation with the “poisoning” of Alexei Navalny, as expected, put the issue of completing the construction of Nord Stream 2 on the agenda. Opponents of the pipeline immediately took advantage of the dubious pretext to disrupt the project.

So Navalny was “poisoned” at the right time.

This article advances recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny and the alleged harmful influence of the US on European politics.

Тhe article casts doubts on Navalny's poisoning and, at the same time, claims that the US uses this incident to stop the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and split Europe.

There are no grounds for connecting Navalny's poisoning with Nord Stream 2, or for alleging US involvement in the incident. The analysis that an assassination attempt with a special poison happened at the time as tension between the West and Russia, and therefore is a Western special operation to tarnish the reputation of Russia, is pure speculation and a conspiracy theory.

Alexei Navalny fell ill on a 20 August flight from Siberia to Moscow. Initially hospitalized in Omsk, he was transferred to the Charité hospital in Berlin at the request of his family. Clinical findings at the Charité hospital indicated that Navalny was poisoned with a substance from the group of cholinesterase inhibitors. Subsequent toxicological tests revealed the presence of a Novichok-type nerve agent in Navalny's blood.

The Three Seas Initiative is an American project against the European Union

No one outside Warsaw sees the success of the Three Seas Initiative – the Polish authorities present this “fantasy” project as if it already existed. There is one interesting sentence in the recent article of a new Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau – he states that the Three Seas Initiative, this American project for Europe, is limited to the countries of the European Union. This statement is important as so far, Poland has claimed to be the Ambassador of non-EU countries – Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, etc. (what was in line with the American recommendations). Suddenly, [in the case of the Three Seas Initiative], Poland limits itself within the EU countries – in this situation, it becomes clear that the Three Seas Initiative is an American project against the European Union.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the  US presence in Europe.

The Three Seas Initiative is a forum of 12 countries from Central and Eastern Europe launched in 2015. The main goal of this Initiative is to promote better connectivity among the Member States, with a particular focus on infrastructure and energy. The main projects discussed at the forums of the Three Seas Initiative are the Via CarpathiaBaltic-Adriatic CorridorVia BalticaRail Baltica and the LNG infrastructure in Poland and Croatia.

The only inspiration for the Polish foreign policy are the phone calls from the US Embassy

The only inspiration for the Polish foreign policy is the orders from Washington, and more precisely – the phone calls from the US Ambassador Mosbacher. As long as this situation continues, the Polish diplomacy will not need any true inspiration.

A common pro-Kremlin narrative on “lost sovereignty”, Poland and the US presence in Europe.

The statement that the US authorities and the US Embassy in Warsaw have a decisive impact on the formation of the foreign policy of Poland is a conspiracy theory. Poland is an independent state, which shapes its own foreign and domestic policies. Read more about the key aspects of the Polish foreign policy here.

The US encouraged escalation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to provoke war between Russia and Turkey

The Atlantic bloc would benefit from a large-scale war between Russia and Turkey over Nagorno- Karabakh. It is in the interest of the US to stoke conflict between Russia and Turkey, both of which challenge the global unipolar order. Washington’s interest is for  Russia and Turkey to fight each other instead of fighting US hegemony. By deviating Russia’s and Turkey’s attention towards Nagorno-Karabakh the US will be able to increase its influence considerably in Syria, Libya, in the  Eastern Mediterranean as a whole, and in other regions where Moscow and Ankara have become important players.

It is significant that the escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh is taking place at the same time as other attacks conducted by the Atlantic bloc: the revolts in Belarus and the pressure on Germany to abandon Nord Stream 2 (in relation to the “poisoning of Alexei Navalny”).

This is a  conspiracy theory, now being spread by several pro-Kremlin outlets, suggesting that the recent escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is in the interest of the US and the West and is the result of deliberate US actions aimed at harming Russia and its interests.

The article even claims that the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the protests in Belarus, and the pressures to abandon Nord Stream 2 as a result of the Navalny poisoning are all three US-inspired coordinated attacks on Russia. This message is consistent with the broad pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that the US and other Western states allegedly pursue a belligerent and hostile agenda against Russia.
