Disinfo: Pentagon controls the work of 15 bacteriological laboratories in Ukraine

Summary

15 bacteriological laboratories created with the participation of the USA have been operating in Ukraine since 2005 – with a break for the reign of Viktor Yanukovych. Ukrainians are not aware of what is done in these laboratories, except that the Pentagon controls their work.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory and recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about the US developing biological and/or chemical weapons around the world.

The security service of Ukraine called the messages about the existence of foreign biological laboratories in Ukraine false. "There are no foreign biological laboratories in Ukraine. Statements that were recently made by some politicians are untrue and deliberately distort the facts," the SSU statement says.

The cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the direction of combating biological terrorism takes place exclusively within the framework of Ukrainian legislation and in the interests of Ukraine.

Also in 2005, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the U.S. Department of Defence signed a framework agreement on preventing the spread of technologies, pathogens and knowledge that can be used in the development of biological weapons. Within the framework of this Agreement, a number of state laboratories located in Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, Kyiv, Vinnitsia, Kherson and Dnipro regions were modernised (repair works were carried out, equipment was updated, consumables were purchased, etc.).

The Security Service of Ukraine emphasises, that these laboratories are financed from the state budget, subordinated to the Ministry of Health and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

The return of Crimea caused Western hostility against Russia

Relations between Russia and Western countries, including the United States, have deteriorated due to the Ukrainian crisis, the return of Crimea to Russia in March 2014, and sanctions against Russia. For its part, Moscow is seeking to confront this hostile Western approach and to restore normal relations with the West.

Disproof

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the illegal annexation of Crimea.

Western countries are not hostile to Russia but are responding to the violation of international law caused by the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014.

NATO will invade western regions of Ukraine

Politicians in Kyiv cultivate separatism in the western regions, they set Hungary, all EU and NATO structures against themselves. What can this lead to? Europe will simply intervene in the situation by force.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation which loosely tries to bring together some favourite narratives, such as the disintegration of Ukraine and the aggressive West, NATO encircling Russia and NATO belligerence.

There is no evidence given about NATO's alleged attempts to violate territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Russia is, in fact, violating territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine with continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces, ongoing since February 2014. All NATO allies adhere to international law regarding state borders and have no territorial claims upon Ukraine.

MH-17 wasn’t hit by a BUK missile

No BUK missile shot down the Malaysian Boeing MH17, that crashed in fields near Donetsk in 2014. This conclusion was made by independent technical expert Yuriy Antipov, who posted five photos on social media proving his statement.

The metal micro-particles found in the liner’s cabin have nothing to do with a BUK, the expert writes.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the MH17 crash, aiming to undermine the Joint International Investigation and subsequent criminal trial.

There years ago, this same Russian 'independent expert', Yuriy Antipov, claimed that MH-17 crashed because of an explosion on board. He claimed that a bomb was planted on the aeroplane in the Netherlands. Also, in 2017, Antipov said that a BUK missile system, shown on videos by the Investigation Team (JIT), was brought there by Ukrainian forces.
