Disinfo: Poland and Lithuania act against their own best interests, refusing to cooperate with Russia

Summary

The Polish and Lithuanian elites have a fear of the East, Eurasia, cooperation with Russia and China. We do not know what approach will dominate the policies of the Polish elites – pragmatism and understanding of the value from beneficial cooperation or attempts to construct barriers around Russia, supporting the American and British interests.

The Baltic and Polish elites have a completely irrational and ideologically driven narrow-mindedness – they act against their own best interests, failing to understand that it is better to cooperate with neighbours than to have a hostile position towards them.

Disproof

This message is a part of the Kremlin’s disinformation narrative about Russophobic Poland and Lithuania, which are not interested in having good relations with Russia.

The Polish and Lithuanian authorities have repeatedly stated that these countries are willing to improve their relations with Russia. In a statement of 21 December 2019, the Polish authorities reiterated their openness to continue the historical dialogue with Russia, for example through restarting the work of the bilateral Group on Difficult Issues.

The main current Russia-related concerns of Poland and Lithuania are a result of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Russia's armed military aggression in Ukraine, and increasing militarisation on Russia's western borders. The Polish and Lithuanian Governments give their full support to complete restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

See other examples of similar messages claiming that constant intimidation with Russia is used to make Poland economically dependent on the USA, the Polish authorities created an insane hysteria of intimidation with Russia, used for the needs of domestic politics and the national security strategy of Poland is a manifestation of traditional Russophobia of the Polish authorities.

British MI6 behind Turkey’s actions in Karabakh

British MI6’s ears stick out behind Turkey’s actions in Karabakh. Pan-Turkism was a British product. Richard Moore, a former British ambassador to Turkey and a close friend of Erdogan, is behind the Karabakh war.

Britain has always been on the side of the Ottomans and for the expulsion of Iran from the Caucasus. Today all opponents of Iran have gathered in Karabakh.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory about the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

There is no evidence that any Western foreign special services had anything to do with the 2020 military escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Crimea democratically voted for reunification with Russia

Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum was held there in March 2014. 96.77 per cent of Crimean voters and 95.6 per cent of Sevastopol residents were in favour of joining Russia. Ukraine still considers Crimea to be its own, temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter, voted for reunification with Russia, the Crimea issue is “finally closed.”

Disproof

A recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative about the illegal annexation of Crimea.

The so-called referendum was organised under Russian illegal occupation without complying with neither the Ukrainian electoral code nor the Russian electoral code. The annexation has been condemned by the UN GA (see the resolution A/RES/68/262 on the territorial integrity of Ukraine). No international body recognises the so-called referendum, announced on 27 February 2014 and held on 16 March 2014. A year after the illegal annexation, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the plan to annex Crimea was ordered weeks before the so-called referendum.

Biden promised war on Russia

Biden has virtually promised a war on Russia.

Disproof

This is another pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the aggression of the USA which supposedly threatens Russia.

Joe Biden, the now President-Elect of the USA has not promised a war on Russia. Biden has declared that Russia should be held accountable for interference in elections if it is proven. In the same piece, you can read his other criticisms of Russia, and belief that Russia wants to break up NATO and the EU. Nowhere has the President-Elect talked about, or threatened, any sort of war with Russia.
