DISINFO: Poland and Lithuania will continue their active interference in the situation in Belarus

SUMMARY

We have all seen the active interference of Poland, the Baltic states and even Ukraine in the Presidential elections in Belarus, and especially, in the situation after the elections.

Warsaw will definitely continue influencing the situation in Belarus as Poland has all types of ties to this country (historical, cultural, interpersonal, etc.). It is no coincidence that this entire story around Belarus is perceived very differently throughout the EU. In reality, most of the European countries, including even Germany, “work” in this direction without conviction – their actions could be more active. The entire burden of political activities falls on the countries that are closely related to Belarus – Poland and Lithuania. Nothing will change in this process – it will continue taking place.

RESPONSE

A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the Western attempts to organise a colour revolution in Belarus.

There is no basis to the claims that Poland and the Baltic states are trying to “organise a colour revolution in Belarus” or that they occupy a hostile position towards Belarus. Lithuania and Poland are neighbours of Belarus and continue to support the Belarusian people. Poland and Lithuania respect the principles of international law and do not intervene in the domestic affairs of any country.

On August 12, the Parliaments of Poland and three Baltic States presented a joint statement protesting against political repressions taking place in Belarus and appealing to organise free and democratic elections in this country.

The EU member states perceive the situation in Belarus in a unanimous way, appealing to the Belarusian authorities to stop violence, release political prisoners and organise democratic elections in Belarus.
