DISINFO: Poland did not invite President Putin for the commemorations of the 75th Anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation
SUMMARY
One of the mistakes committed by the Law and Justice party and the team of the Polish President’s was not to invite President Putin to take part in the commemorations in Auschwitz on January 27th. It is a sign of the Polish’s diplomacy weakness.
RESPONSE
This message is part of the ongoing Russian information attack against Poland, promoting false historical narratives such as the alleged responsibility of Poland for WWII and the Holocaust.
According to the statement of Krzysztof Szczerski, Chief of the Cabinet of the Polish President, the invitations for the Auschwitz commemoration events were issued by the Auschwitz Museum, not by the Polish authorities. The Governments of each invited country (including Russia) decide on what political level they will be represented at during the event. This means that it was a decision by President Putin not to come to the Auschwitz liberation anniversary.
A similar situation took place in 2015 when Russia accused Poland of not inviting the Russian delegation to the Auschwitz event in a proper way. Poland reacted to this accusation with a statement that every country invited by the Auschwitz Museum could be present on any political level.
