Disinfo: Poland threatened by the European integration, may lose its sovereignty

Summary

Poland is threatened by the European integration process. It may make Poland lose its sovereignty and become part of a supranational European state.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about the EU as a threat to national sovereignty and disintegrating. EU accession is subject to a sovereign decision of every member state. In case of Poland, it was preceded by a national referendum. According to the Article 4 of the Treaty on European Union: “The Union shall respect the equality of Member States before the Treaties as well as their national identities, inherent in their fundamental structures, political and constitutional, inclusive of regional and local self-government. It shall respect their essential State functions, including ensuring the territorial integrity of the State, maintaining law and order and safeguarding national security. In particular, national security remains the sole responsibility of each Member State.” In addition to that, operating on a basis of mutual agreement and cooperation, the EU respects the will of its members to opt-out from certain policies.

The "White Helmets" are preparing new provocations in Syria

The “White Helmets”, together with the terrorists Dzhebhat an-Nusra, are preparing another provocation using chemical weapons in the province of Idlib. The main goal, as in previous cases, is to blame the Syrian army to discredit officials in Damascus.

Disproof

No evidence given. This is also a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative of crimes and hoaxes perpetrated by the White Helmets. Pro-Kremlin disinformation has claimed that both the 2017 attack in Khan Sheikhoun and 2018 in Douma were faked. A UN-OPCW Joint Investigation found Syria’s Government responsible for last year’s attack in Khan Sheikhoun. On 10th of April 2018, Russia vetoed a U.S.-drafted U.N. Security Council resolution that would have created a new inquiry to ascertain responsibility for chemical weapons attacks in Syria. In June 2018, the OPCW members granted it power to assign blame for chemical attacks. Similar disinformation cases here and here.

Ukraine nearly had a new Chornobyl disaster at a nuclear power plant

The Chornobyl tragedy almost repeated itself in Ukraine. As the local rescuers reported, a fire broke out at the nuclear power plant in Rivne – a transformer caught fire.

Disproof

Manipulative headline with exaggerating conclusions. A fire did take place at the Rivne nuclear power plant in Ukraine However, on the official site of the Rivne NPP, it was noted that according to the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES), the incident was classified as “zero / out of scale”, that is of little significance in terms of safety. It was also noted that “there were no violations of the limits and conditions of safe operation. The radiation and ecological status at the RNPP and the adjacent territory has not changed and is within the limits of the current standards”. This is recurring narrative about insecurity of Ukrainian nuclear power plants and the possibility of a second "Chornobyl" in Ukraine. Similar disinformation cases on the theme: here and here.

US introduced anti-Russian sanctions in exchange for anti-Trump kompromat from Poroshenko team

Poroshenko’s team was very active in promoting anti-Russian sanctions in Washington. It passed colossal Russia-related volumes of information on to the US Democratic party as part of these activities. The Democrats, however, mostly used this information against Trump rather than against Russia. Generally the information concerning Trump’s connections with Moscow was exchanged for US anti-Russian sanctions to please Ukrainian authorities. For the whole period of the Mueller commission’s work, which is over two years, Trump could not do anything about it because media interpreted any his counteractions as an intention to hide his connections with Moscow. However, the official conclusion of the Mueller commission proves that Trump has not developed ties with Moscow. Hence it turned out that Clinton administration violated US laws based on the falsified documents passed by the Poroshenko team alleging illegal Trump ties with Russia.

Disproof

This is a conspiracy theory aiming to diminish the Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election by introducing unfounded claims about collusion between the US Democratic party and Petro Poroshenko. Mueller's 448-page report though mentions Ukraine a dozen of times, mostly in a part which assesses Paul Manafort's ties to Russia and Ukraine, and does not contain a single mention of Petro Poroshenko.
