Disinfo: Poland threatened by the European integration, may lose its sovereignty

Poland is threatened by the European integration process. It may make Poland lose its sovereignty and become part of a supranational European state.

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about the EU as a threat to national sovereignty and disintegrating.

EU accession is subject to a sovereign decision of every member state. In case of Poland, it was preceded by a national referendum.

According to the Article 4 of the Treaty on European Union: “The Union shall respect the equality of Member States before the Treaties as well as their national identities, inherent in their fundamental structures, political and constitutional, inclusive of regional and local self-government. It shall respect their essential State functions, including ensuring the territorial integrity of the State, maintaining law and order and safeguarding national security. In particular, national security remains the sole responsibility of each Member State.”

In addition to that, operating on a basis of mutual agreement and cooperation, the EU respects the will of its members to opt-out from certain policies.

A big number of European countries are under a new form of colonialism

Conspiracy theory consistent with three out of the five most common pro-Kremlin propaganda narratives, namely the elites vs. the people, threatened values, and lost sovereignty.

Claims that certain countries are no longer truly sovereign is another very frequent narrative promoted by the pro-Kremlin disinformation sources. Examples of this narrative are numerous: Ukraine is ruled by foreignersThe EU is directed by Washington, Lithuania is occupied by NATO.

The Eastern Partnership Programme is against Russia

According to many experts, from the very beginning, the Eastern Partnership programme was aimed at weakening Russia’s geopolitical influence in Eastern Europe, as well as creating alternative energy supplies for Europe.

No evidence or expert opinion given. This message is an example of one of several pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives accusing the West, and in this case the EU, of encircling Russia.

The Eastern Partnership programme is not directed against any country, including Russia. It is a joint policy initiative which aims to deepen and strengthen relations between the European Union, its member states and six Eastern neighbours: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The EU was born in order to preserve the Atlanticist hegemony over Europe

The EU was born in order to preserve the Atlanticist hegemony over Western Europe and, after the fall of the Berlin wall, over some countries of the former Warsaw Pact.

Conspiracy theory and recurring disinformation narrative portraying the EU under the control of a hegemonic US.
