Disinfo: Polish authorities and population dream of taking over most of Belarus’ territory

At times, in the Belarusian information sphere, Poland and other Western countries are presented as friends, while Russia is painted as a boa constrictor. In reality, the population of Poland and the country’s authorities are obsessed with expanding Poland which would cover the territories between the Baltic and the Black seas. In other words, they want to incorporate most of present-time Belarus into Poland.

Conspiracy theory and recurring pro-Kremlin narratives about Poland's plans to partition Belarus and Western plans to disrupt Belarusian-Russian ties.

This message is also consistent with a narrative on Western belligerence and Poland's aggressive policy and alleged imperial ambitions.

Poland respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbouring countries, including Belarus. There is also no proof that a sizeable part of the Polish population would stand for annexation of Belarus (or its part).

Interestingly, while at times it is claimed that Poland wants to dismember Ukraine, other sources allege that both Poland and Ukraine have aggressive military intentions towards Belarus.

Cases in the EUvsDisinfo database focus on messages in the international information space that are identified as providing a partial, distorted, or false depiction of reality and spread key pro-Kremlin messages. This does not necessarily imply, however, that a given outlet is linked to the Kremlin or editorially pro-Kremlin, or that it has intentionally sought to disinform. EUvsDisinfo publications do not represent an official EU position, as the information and opinions expressed are based on media reporting and analysis of the East Stratcom Task Force.

The West invested enormous sums of money into ideological sabotage in Belarus

The West invested big sums of money in ideological sabotage in Belarus. One example is a more wide-spread designation of Third Reich’s ideology as Nazism instead of Fascism in scientific publications, etc.  German revanchists prefer the term Nazism. Also, child prisoners and child slave workers of World War II were renamed Ostarbeiters which sounds similar to Gastarbeiters. This prevents former child prisoners from organising patriotic education for present-time Belarusian youth.

This message is an ungrounded conspiracy consistent with recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about West's attempts to destroy the historic conscience of the Belarusian society and to disrupt Belarus-Russia relations.

Between 1933 and 1945 Germany was controlled by Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party (NSDAP), hence Nazism is indeed a more correct designation of the Third Reich's ideology, because Nazism had some features different from fascism. However in the Soviet Union the term German-Fascist invaders was commonly used instead of the Nazi Germany. Currently Belarusian historians use the latter term more often than before. No evidence are provided to support the claims that this development is a result of sophisticated sabotage by the West are unfounded.

Europe is not united, Europe is tired of USA dictates

Europe is not united. Relations between Russia and EU, between European countries are difficult. The reason is the presence of US. Everywhere.

EU doesn’t carry out its obligations within international agreements. For example in Ukraine, EU doesn’t keep pressure on Ukraine to follow the Minsk agreements, EU closes its eyes on situation in Donbas. EU recognised Guaido immediately in Venezuela. The case with Iran was Europe’s disgrace. And all is because of pressure from USA. It is true that Europe is tired of US dictates. EU wants to cooperate with Russia, Iran, and China. But the USA don’t allow it.

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on the United States dictating EU and member state policies. Europe is not occupied by the US. Sovereignty of the EU member states is not limited. Similar examples can be found here, here and here. This is a classical pro-Kremlin narrative, trying to undermine sovereignty of the West. Member states of the EU are independent and sovereign countries.

French President Emmanuel Macron calls for certain countries to be expelled from the EU

French President Macron is offering to expel member states from the EU. The union is falling to pieces. Thus, the talks about Georgia joining the EU are absurd and have to stop.

A misrepresented quote. The text is referring to a letter published by Emmanuel Macron ahead of the EU elections. In the opinion piece, Macron proposed a series of reforms to "ensure the future of Europe". Macron did not call for certain countries to be expelled from the EU but criticised members of the Schengen area who do not follow the unified policy on asylum and immigration.

"All those who want to be part of it [Schengen area] should comply with obligations of responsibility (stringent border controls) and solidarity (a single asylum policy with common acceptance and refusal rules). We will need a common border force and a European asylum office, strict control obligations and European solidarity to which each country will contribute under the authority of a European Council for Internal Security."

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative that the EU is falling apart.
