Disinfo: Poroshenko is behind the terrorist attacks in Ukraine

Summary

“Nationalists” are trying to get power back. They are trying to destabilise the situation [with the help of the terrorist attacks in Ukraine [in July 2020]. It is clear that this is “European Solidarity”, this is the faction of the loser Poroshenko. He wants to take revenge.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the 5th President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The Ukrainian police and the Security Service of Ukraine do not link the hostage-taking in Lutsk on 21 July with Petro Poroshenko or any opposition representatives or activists. The respective message was published by the police of the Volyn region on 22 July. No accusations were made against Poroshenko on 23 July either, when a man took a policeman hostage in Poltava. A suspected person of a crime was charged with committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 258 (a terrorist attack), Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons and explosive devices), Article 348 (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer), and Article 147 (hostage-taking) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

With the help of NATO, Ukrainians shot down MH17 using Kolchuga station

Ukrainian soldiers could shoot down MH17 with NATO Kolchuga sensor. // MH17 was shot down with BUK missile system, but it was the Ukrainians who launched the missile, using Kolchuga and receiving signals from [NATO aircraft] AWACS from German and Polish airspace. // NATO special services organised this tragedy. They had at their disposal an integrated air defence system where the “Buk” is integrated with Kolchuga passive sensor. This system is also actively used by the Russian army, which made it possible to put forward false accusations against our country.

Disproof

One of the multiple disinformation narratives on the downing of flight MH17 denying Russia's responsibility. The Dutch-led criminal investigation by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been ongoing since 2014. On 28 September 2016, the JIT announced that flight MH17 was shot down by a missile from the 9M38 series, which was launched by a BUK TELAR missile system. The system was transported from the Russian Federation to an agricultural field near the town of Pervomaiskiy in Eastern Ukraine, from where the missile was launched. After firing, the system, with 1 missing missile, went back to the Russian Federation. On the 24 May 2018, the JIT announced its conclusion that the BUK TELAR used to shoot down MH17 came from the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade, a unit of the Russian armed forces from Kursk in the Russian Federation. On the basis of the investigation conducted by the JIT, consisting of law enforcement agencies from Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, Ukraine and the Netherlands, the Dutch Public Prosecution Service will prosecute Igor Vsevolodovich Girkin, Sergey Nikolayevich Dubinskiy, Oleg Yuldashevich Pulatov and Leonid Volodymyrovych Kharchenko for causing the crash of flight MH17 and murdering all 298 persons on board. The Public Prosecution Service alleges that the four cooperated to obtain and deploy the BUK TELAR with the aim of shooting down an aircraft. Public hearings started on 9 March 2020 in the Netherlands. The European Union and NATO have called on the Russian Federation to accept its responsibility and to fully cooperate with all efforts to establish accountability. On the basis of the JIT’s conclusions, the Netherlands and Australia are convinced that Russia is responsible for the deployment of the Buk installation that was used to down MH17. The two governments are formally holding Russia accountable. On top of that, on 10 July 2020, the Dutch government decided to bring Russia before the European Court of Human Rights for its role in the downing of Flight MH17. As stated on the government's website, it "attaches importance to continuing the meetings with Russia on the matter of state responsibility. The purpose of these meetings is to find a solution that does justice to the enormous suffering and damage cause by the downing of Flight MH17."

White helmets are not a humanitarian organisation, but marauders

The White helmets, behind the facade of the humanitarian brand, hides looting, robbery and direct complicity in terrorism.

Disproof

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative smearing the White Helmets while providing no evidence. TheWhite Helmets movement originated in Syria in 2012, when the first detachments of volunteer rescuers appeared in the territories outside of the control of Bashar al-Assad's troops. In 2014, volunteer teams merged into a national organisation, the Syrian Civil Defence, which is the official name of the White Helmets. Volunteers save people from the rubble after bombings, despite the danger of dying themselves as a result of repeated air strikes. Activists have documented the use of chemical weapons in Syria by the Assad government and allied forces. Because Russia is supporting Assad, the White Helmetshave become the target of an extensive Russiandisinformation campaign. The White Helmets are a staple topic of pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives on the Syrian civil war, having already been accused of numerous other provocations and war crimes including organ trafficking; aiding terrorist organisations; staging and/or perpetrating chemical attacks, sometimes with the help of Western intelligence agencies.

SBU should check the activities of secret biological laboratories in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) should open a criminal case over the fact that the Americans illegally tested bacteriological weapons on Ukrainians. American bacteriological laboratories in Ukraine were supervised by senior officials of both states.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory about "secret"biological weapons. Back in May, the Ukrainian Security Service urged people not to spread fake news about the alleged presence of American military biological laboratories in Ukraine. "Usually, the Security Service of Ukraine, which is fighting real, and not fake, threats to the country, does not react to comment on such rumours ... But against the background of the fight against coronavirus, the SBU considers it appropriate to respond to this...There are no foreign biological laboratories operating on the territory of Ukraine. The statements made recently by certain politicians do not correspond to reality and are a deliberate distortion of facts," the SBU said. The US Embassy in Ukraine hasrepeatedly denied the "creation of military biological laboratories" in Ukraine. Over many years, the United States and Ukraine have only ever cooperated in the prevention of biological threats. The US Department of Defence’sBiological Threat Reduction Program collaborates with partner countries to counter the threat of outbreaks (deliberate, accidental or natural) of the world’s most dangerous infectious diseases. The Biological Threat Reduction Program’s priorities in Ukraine are to consolidate and secure pathogens and toxins of security concern and to continue to ensure Ukraine can detect and report outbreaks caused by dangerous pathogens before they pose security or stability threats. BTRP really has upgraded many laboratories for the Ministry of Health and the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service of Ukraine, reaching Biosafety Level 2. In 2019 BTRP started constructing two laboratories for the latter, one in Kyiv and one in Odesa. TheUkrainian Science and Technology Centre is an intergovernmental organisation established in 1993. The work of these scientific laboratories is not aimed at "collecting the Russian genome." All data on the mission of international scientific cooperation are in the public domain, and information on scientific and technical laboratories is not a "secret".
