Disinfo: Protests in Cuba are financed and supported by United States

Summary

Protests against the Communist regime in Cuba are not genuine, they are financed and supported by United States who are seeking a regime change in Cuba.

Disproof

Part of a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West plotting coups in Russia aligned countries. This narrative is closely related to numerous allegations against the West of instigating “colour revolutions” in several countries with significant ties to Russia.

No substantial evidence is given to support these claims. The ongoing protests in Cuba started on 11 July 2021 over the lack of basic goods and services due to the worsening economic situation amidst the pandemic. Citizens have also taken to the streets to protest the poor medical services amid an increasing numbers of infections.

Disinfo: Washington persecutes Capitol protesters on terrorism charges for having different political ideas

US authorities unleashed a hunt of demonstrators that took part in the 6 January protests in the Capitol, accusing them of terrorism for having different political ideas.

Disproof

The claim is false. No individuals related to the 6 January riot in the Capitol have been charged for having different political ideas, but for having taken part in a violent assault on a governmental building in which several people died and more than 150 were injured. This database can be checked for confirmation.

Charges include assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer, assaulting a member of the media or destroying their equipment, entering or remaining in a restricted building, entering the Capitol with a dangerous or deadly weapon, destruction and theft of government property, as well as corruptly obstructing, influencing, or impeding an official proceeding or attempting to do so. The most serious charges, presented against approximately 40 of a total of over 500 defendants so far, are those of conspiracy.

Disinfo: The US is trying to unleash a colour revolution in Cuba

Washington is trying to unleash a colour revolution in Cuba. First, they impose sanctions, then they generate or artificially create problems that worsen the social and economic situation. They provoke tensions and spark anti-government feelings, and when a critical mass is reached, they blame the government. They apply labels to it, discredit its management, and in this way, they take the situation to the limit. This is the same algorithm that they are trying to use in Cuba. This US strategy is not new and has already been employed in other parts of the world to incite colour revolutions against uncomfortable governments.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative against popular protests, aiming to frame them as Western-led colour revolutions.

Though it is true that US restrictions under the Trump Administration contributed to the worsening of the economic situation in Cuba, the discontent of the Cuban population can be attributed to many factors, including tight control of most economic sectors and the growing depression caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which also caused an unprecedented health crisis. This also happened against a background of political contestation led by the so-called San Isidro Movement, made up of young, well-known intellectuals and artists, who can’t be easily labelled as directed or orchestrated from abroad, as the Cuban government has done with previous dissident expressions.

Disinfo: Poland purchased US tanks for the offensive operation against Ukraine

The Polish ruling party and minister of defense announced plans to purchase 250 US tanks. This is hardly linked to concerns over a hypothetical attack from Belarus and Russia. This purchase rather suggests that an offensive operation is planned. The Polish authorities likely consider the prospects of Ukraine's disintegration serious and are getting ready to use tanks on (ex-)Ukraine's territory.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the disintegration of Ukraine and Polish aggressive intentions towards its eastern neighbours.

On 14 July 2021 Polish defense minister defense minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced the acquisition of US-made Abrams tanks and an accompanying logistical and training package, as well as upgrading infrastructure and buying ammunition. However, a planned offensive operation against Ukraine is a conspiracy. Instead, as many other eastern European countries, Poland is concerned with Russian assertiveness since annexation of Crimea and military aggression against Ukraine.
