Disinfo: The EU and the US backed ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria, Yemen and Iraq

The conclusion of the videoconference held by authorities from the European Council, the EU and those countries affected by the latest terrorist attacks is that maybe the solution lies in a more restrictive policy and in strengthening the Schengen borders. But if what you are doing is supporting and arming radical groups in Yemen, Syria and Iraq, if it was said that they were moderate rebels when afterwards it became clear that there has been cooperation with the Islamic State, and we are seeing how those people use US vehicles and weapons that come from Europe, how can you wash your hands at the end for what is happening on your own territory?

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West’s alleged support for terrorism in the Middle East.

Contrary to the claim, neither the European Union nor the US have cooperated with the Islamic State and terrorist groups. In fact, both the US and most EU members have taken part in the counter-terrorism mission Operation Inherent Resolve, while the EU established its own set of actions to counter Daesh.

Allegations about European weapons in the hands of terrorists have been previously debunked, after detailed studies by both Amnesty International and Conflict Armament Research traced the origin of those weapons. Regarding the claim about US vehicles, ISIS seized 2,300 armoured Humvees from the Iraqi army when the group captured Mosul in 2014, which alone explains their provenance.

See other examples of this disinformation narrative, such as claims that the West is supporting terrorists to encircle Russia; that the EU is supporting terrorism against the Syrian state; that instead of killing ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, the US may have evacuated him; that the US is transporting ISIS members to Afghanistan; or that extremists and Nazis are being trained in Ukraine to act in Belarus.

This disinformation message appeared in the same TV programme than the claim that “The EU and the West supported terrorism in Syria and now don’t want to help the Syrian refugees to return”.

The EU and the West supported terrorism in Syria and now don’t want to help the Syrian refugees to return

The European Union said that it is not attending the conference in Damascus for the return of the Syrian refugees. Why there is no attempt to alleviate the problem from its roots? A big part of the Western world supported those ‘moderate rebels’ who ended up being terrorists, and now they are trying to wash their hands by saying that they are not ready.

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West’s alleged support for terrorism in Syria.

The EU decided not to attend the conference because it was deemed premature, since conditions inside Syria at present do not lend themselves to the promotion of large-scale voluntary return, in conditions of safety and dignity in line with international law. This situation has been confirmed by independent media reporting.

US Army raided a CIA facility in Germany to seize Dominion servers

The Dominion scandal is spreading slowly, also because the American and European media – all of them hostile to President Donald Trump – wish to cover it up. The Dominion software used for the electoral counts in the US presidential elections manipulated the votes in favour of the Democratic candidate. This discovery led a few days ago a US Army tactical team to raid a CIA facility in Frankfurt, Germany, to seize Dominion servers and system logs. Gina Haspel’s CIA was not informed in advance of this raid.

The story is part of an emerging pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative seeking to delegitimise the conduct and results of the 2020 US presidential election by alleging that the Dominion electoral software – one of the software used by voting machines in the US – has deleted millions of pro-Trump votes in the November 2020 presidential elections.

This unsubstantiated claim has been spread by US far-right conspiratorial websites, and has been debunked here and here.

Georgia is under the Western control

West made Georgia vote for drug addiction and torturersYou probably also remember how everyone yelled that Russia would interfere in these elections. Intervened? No. And the West? It is the Western ambassadors and Western observers who give legitimacy to Georgian elections (not the population of Georgia). And don’t say now no. They forced Georgians to rewrite the Constitution, laws and laid out an agenda for Georgia. And it’s fine if they force you to write percentages or confirm. Who will resist, who?!

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about lost sovereignty, about Western involvement in other countries' internal affairs, including elections. In this case, the narrative challenges Georgian statehood, claiming that Georgia is ruled by the West and cooperation with the Western institutions destroys the country's sovereignty.

There is no evidence of the US or any Western country's interference in the in country's internal affairs, including parliamentary elections in Georgia. Media Development Foundation's media monitoring results revealed that the narrative that the West is meddling in sovereign affairs of Georgia and virtually run the country, is one of the main trends of anti-Western propaganda and disinformation in the country.
