DISINFO: Results of Taiwan election a victory for the Western empire
SUMMARY
The candidate of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te, was proclaimed the winner in the regional election by the Central Electoral Commission on Saturday 13 January. Everything points to the DPP continuing to occupy the so-called Presidential Office and following US orders, which is ultimately a victory for the Western empire. The DPP leaders are simply US satraps, and Washington will use their subordination to abuse the Taiwanese people as geopolitical pawns.
RESPONSE
The 13 January 2024 election in Taiwan was a fully democratic process with a plurality of candidates, and whose results were immediately recognised by all participants. The most voted candidate, Lai Ching-te, was cleanly elected by a majority of Taiwanese citizens, despite reports of China’s interference trying to prevent this result through disinformation, intimidation attempts, economic coercion and other measures.
By accusing both the incoming and newly elected officials of being ‘pawns of the empire’, this disinformation narrative aims to discredit not only this election result but also democracy as a whole, as part of a wider disinformation campaign, in order to make Russia’s authoritarian system more acceptable by contrast.
