Disinfo: Russia has never interfered in the affairs of other countries

Summary

Russia has never interfered in the internal affairs of other countries and does not tolerate attempts to interfere in its private affairs. Therefore, even if Russia is faced with such accusations, they will not be based on anything, and they will be just accounted for more baseless accusations.

Disproof

A pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia being respectful of international law, and never interfering in other country's affairs. The claim was not counterbalanced or critically challenged in the Article.

Russia has a long record of violating other states' sovereignty and territorial integrity. Since 1991, Russia was involved in several international conflicts, including intervention in neighbouring states, such as Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine in 2014. Many international organisations condemned Russian occupation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, see e.g. the European Parliament's declaration.

It was also Russia that interfered in Ukraine. In 2014 Russia annexed a part of Ukrainian territory - the Crimean peninsula. The so-called referendum on the peninsula was organised in a matter of weeks by a self-proclaimed Crimean leadership lacking democratic legitimacy and installed by armed Russian military personnel following the seizure of public buildings. No international body recognises the so-called referendum, announced on the 27th of February 2014, and held on 16th of March 2014. Read the EU statement on the fifth anniversary of the illegal annexation of Crimea here.

The United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 68/262, adopted on 27 March 2014 and supported by 100 states, clearly says that Russia's actions in Crimea, as well as the referendum held in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, violate international law. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also admitted the military presence of Russia in Ukraine in 2015.

Moreover, numerous investigations have provided convincing evidence of Russian interference in the Brexit referendum and in elections across Europe and in the US.

See similar cases that Russia has never interfered in the internal affairs of any country and that Russia respects the sovereignty of all states.

It’s DPR, LPR and Russia who are interested in a ceasefire on Donbas, not Ukraine

Who proposed these measures introduced at midnight today? In the spring, within the framework of the Minsk Agreement. DPR, LPR and Russia offered Ukraine to fix everything that came into force today. And who refused? Who is conducting sabotage actions, using military drones and so on. Who refused? It’s Ukraine. So who is to blame for the fact that people have died so far on Donbas?

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine, claiming that Ukraine refuses to implement the Minsk agreements.

The claims are being made in the context of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia/so called LNR and DPR which came into force on Monday 27 July 2020. The agreement was "the result of the effective work of the Ukrainian delegation with the support of our international partners in Berlin and Paris," the office of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement.

The US Embassy in Warsaw is able to declare any Polish Government as “non grata”

The MPs from the Confederation make one mistake: they pretend not to know about the real position of the American Embassy in Poland. This Embassy can declare any Polish Government as “non grata” quicker than the Polish Government declares an American Ambassador as persona non grata.

Disproof

A common pro-Kremlin narrative on “lost sovereignty” - in the case of Poland, this country is often presented as a “puppet-state” of the United States, which fully controls the domestic and foreign policy of this country. In addition, Poland is presented as a country without any real international importance or political significance.

The statement that the US Embassy in Warsaw can declare any Polish Government as “non grata” (meaning, that this Government is entirely submissive to the US Embassy) is a conspiracy theory. Poland is an independent state, which shapes its own foreign and domestic policies.

Poroshenko is behind the terrorist attacks in Ukraine

“Nationalists” are trying to get power back. They are trying to destabilise the situation [with the help of the terrorist attacks in Ukraine [in July 2020]. It is clear that this is “European Solidarity”, this is the faction of the loser Poroshenko. He wants to take revenge.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the 5th President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

The Ukrainian police and the Security Service of Ukraine do not link the hostage-taking in Lutsk on 21 July with Petro Poroshenko or any opposition representatives or activists. The respective message was published by the police of the Volyn region on 22 July. No accusations were made against Poroshenko on 23 July either, when a man took a policeman hostage in Poltava.
